i would like to suggest for clubs to race in the following format.
we used to devide drivers into groups by what car they are driving, however, sometimes in one class, too many drivers, so group, too little drivers.

so i suggest, we race in a group to have a closest lap time ( personal average best lap time) no matter what car they are using.
so we are competing with someone equally fast on the lap, so slow drivers will not blocking fast drivers. and every race, full of drivers and cars. from spectator point of view, it is nice to watch.

and it is a race may push each other run faster.

i am not sure if this idea is going to work, any comments??

I know that most club that I race at already do something similar.
You just can't keep the novice drivers on the track for a whole 2 laps

i was a novice driver. first race, loss a rear wheel. second heat. loss a dog bone, done 23.4 in serccc.
next race, well checked everything. done 21.97 in Serccc.
third time, still waiting for result.

erm.. yes. System already exists, that's called the Finals.

Before the finals, you compete in the Heats to determine your
lap time... best group goes into the A-Final, next lot go B-Final etc.

The Heats is a timed event, so you're running against the clock
only (for best time) and *not* competing against another car.
The cars get beeped off one at a time... aka "qualifiers".

The Finals is where you race head-to-head. Everybody starts at
the same moment, and the winner is the one that does the most
laps in the fastest time.. aka "Mains".

the clubs are dividing drivers into different group, that is why some groups only have 5 cars, some have 13 cars, if they cannot race together, there will be three races. long day, but boring .
another way is to group them into two groups, faster group. top 10 drivers. and the next group will be 8 drivers.
some stock car run faster than pro touring car. so they can race together. can't they?

Sometimes Perhaps, but usually No. If you're running modified
class and you're consistently slower than a good stock class
racer... wouldn't you be asking yourself why are you
still racing in mod anyway?? Something must be wrong...


Basically speaking... if you're an active racer at your club, why
not suggest that your club has a "540 day" where EVERYBODY
runs 540!!

Then everybody would be on par for horsepower, everybody
runs in the same race and compete against each other.

Otherwise, I'd suggest racing in MINI class... this one is always
the best for spectators as all the cars are so equal.


Which club do you race at?

not always same car give same lap time,
it depends on the driver. and the lines and how they run the corners.
so i suggest group drivers into groups base on the lap time, instead of what cars.
unexperience driver with pro tour car, run slower than good stock drivers. agree?

i just suggest for everyrace, a full ten or 12 drivers to complete, instead only 5 or 6.

it is a total different racing concept. not everyone accept.

if u run bad in one race, will be put to another cl;ass, but, practically, frequency crash will be a problem. drivers may have to change freq for each race. that is the only problem i foresee to happen.

Umm... just wondering, have you even analysed at the usual
lap times at races?? There's usually a pretty wide difference
between the classes... best go study it yourself first.

So what you'll end up with is all the mod guys in the top,
stock in middle and 540 at the rear anyway, there'll be very
little mixing together other than at the fringes.



As for "inexperience" drivers... hey, newbies can barely drive
around the track without crashing (= unconsistant laptimes)
but also they will not have enough control to get out of the
way of faster drivers.

The problem you'll get is that if there's a faster driver stuck below,
he will have a MUCH HARDER time cutting some fast laps with the
obstructive traffic; he'll have little chance of making up time.
Frustration city!!




As for "pleasing the spectators"... personally I wouldn't care.
I race for my own fun, I enjoy skilful driving & dicing with equal
cars... but I'm not sponsored by anyone so I wouldn't care
how many ppl see my car running.

I know that at JGIR, the Nitro tour class is broken up for qualifying, but when it comes to the finals, a lower class of driver can be moved up.(eg: clubman to pro)

Electric racing can be different with so many classes. The slower mod drivers really don't want to blown away by stock drivers all the time with every one knowing about it. The other thing to consider with this is the speed differance from stock to mod. I have seen quite a few new commers to mod with balistic straight line speed, but the problems comes when they try to pass in the straight and also when they get to the corners.

The way racing is structured world wide is to run your best time over 5 minutes, not your best lap. that way we get better racing of more evenly matched drivers in the finals.
In other words, just because you can do 1 ballistic lap, does not make you the world champ.

it is group them by the average lap time over the 5 minutes heats
average lap time. not personal best.

Forget about the average lap time, that will be automatic when you finish a race.
The fastest overall will have the fastest average lap time and so on down the list.
The results are calculated on the car that covers the most distance in the time allowed for the race,
eg 5 minutes plus seconds required to finish the lap it is on.
example 15laps in 5min 12.325 secs
This is the result that race control look at for qualifying and race finishing positions.
Your average lap time is worked out from this result.
Your consistancy is one of the things that a lot people don't look at, the lower the better, but that doesn't aways win you races.
Farstest lap means you got your act together for 1 lap (or may have even cut a corner if too fast)

Gotta admit, the best fun I've had in RC racing is when we raced
1/8th gas. Everyone at the race ran in the one same class... and
then only was it a true fight for A-Main. And when there's
anywhere between 50 and 250 ppl turning up to race, wow...
the duels were really fast and furious!!



Any "mixing" of drivers in electric... is THE SAME as
*mandating* that everybody races Modified.

Think about it...
