Gday all, I've got a bit of a problem.
A mate of mine bought a Losi JRXS3 radio system off of ebay from the USA, and it's a fine-looking radio system and all, no servos though. Never used it here, as we've found out that it's illegal.
It's 75mHz, which what we've been told is what ambulance radio frequencies run on. We've also been told that it's a 10,000 dollar fine if you're caught.
You can see the predicament. How should we go about this issue and come out of it without losing too much money? It cost a total of about 210 bucks posted.

Well, there is a reason you see these radios with 75MHz selling for less than $100 on Ebay. The XS3's with the 'legal' frequencies cost more than $200.
I guess there is nothing you can really do, except to try and sell it to someone overseas.
Anyway, good luck.

You are right, 75Mhz is not a legal frequency for RC use In Australia, and you will find that most clubs will not allow you to race with it.
The sad thing with this story is that the JR XS3 radio can be bought here in Australia for just over $200 AUD, and it comes with 2 servos..... (I think I paid $225 for mine)
My only advice is to relist the item back on eBay in the USA and try and on-sell it, and cut your losses...
Cheers

Just do what others said, sell it to OS. Not worth risk even he don't race. I don't really know what 75mhz used for but if it is used for ambulance think about those people who needs ambulance. Not just for your mates risk.

If you're not racing just use it. The chances of you getting caught are very slim and even if you did do you really think they would impose the maximum fine?
I have known several people to use the 75mhz frequency over the years and nt one has ever had anything come of it.

how would u like it if ur arm got cut off or something bad and an ambulance couldnt be dispatched as some kid bashing on 75mhz was interfering with the ambulance communications
