ordering from overseas

I'm about to order some parts from Raibow ten jp. It's that i'm abit worried about sending my credit card details via email or fax. which seems to be the only way with rainbow ten. does any body have any proven safe ways of sending my details to raibow ten. Also has any one had problems with rainbow ten in terms of details and delivery

Thanks for the help

If at all possible, I would see if they had any sort of secure website. If not, I would call your bank and give them a list of the businesses that you approve to take your money, and for how much etc

Sending your CC details by fax is less risky than handing it to a waiter in a resteraunt. I wouldn't worry about it.

Sending details by fax is safest; its near impossible to intercept a fax telephone call to give you usable data. Email might not be 'secure' but heck, I wouldn't be too worried either. There are easier ways to steal creditcard numbers than to eavesdrop on every darned email message.

Back when I was a paranoid freak, I went as far as putting my card details onto a jpg/bmp and then emailing that instead.

Just check your creditcard bill regularly and if any wierd transactions turn up, you just call up your bank to dispute them. Then the onus is on the card merchant to prove that the cardholder has authorised the transaction, if not then they get chargedback.

Nah, the biggest ripoff will always be the exchange rate the banks use to calculate your AUD amt owed!!

I agree, I walked into Frontline Hobbies in Newcastle yesterday and lined up on the floor were all thier online orders complete with the customers CC details and in full view of all customers.................website maybe secure but only as secure as the logistical side of the business.

i think rainbow ten suggest you send you credit card details via 4 seperate emails, 1 part of the number in each email. this is what i have done in the past.

i have onlysent them my details once they keep them on file.

Actually the law says that you have to delete all records of at least the last four numbers. But I know Rainbow Ten as very safe and respect their business for o/s customers.

Get a paypal account and ask them if they accept paypal... most places do, its the safest way to do it if you dont want to send your CC details.

It really depends how much you want to pay for the shipping. Normally EMS is about a week from Japan, and that has tracking so you can see where it is. you can get next day service is you really want it but you pay for it.

DZ from Quakers HIll, is this Mr Damien Zarb, son of Bert, older brother to the young Padawan?

Are you getting a Yokomo, so you can continue to dominate the Zarb family?
