10 amp charging!

Hi guys,

I heard from a fellow racer, that at big comps they charge there cells at 10 amps to get the ultimate punch, then throw the packs out at the end of the race day.

Has anyone else heard of this?

Wow, thats a bit excessive!

Try charging a lipo at 10 amps and see what happens... BOOM!

hmmm, I wonder if those packs would be ok for practice packs, if they were just tossing them out...

lol!

I charge at 4amps.

Practice packs at 6amps.

This is just some of the "crap" you will here from ppl who can't keep with the leaders. The ppl who win are fast cause they drive better and well setup cars. Always look for your speed at those two points and do everythiong else by the book.

I too have heard that rumour, can't say if it's true or not.

I however regularly charge at 8amps just because i hate waiting around. You will get a punchier pack by charging fast but more runtime by charging slow. If you REALLY wanted to look after your packs you would trickle charge them.

Rossco,

It was actually 14 Amps. Team 12 AmPz sounds better.
Two milleniums hooked to one pack.
He did the fastest time by three seconds.......

I have charged up to 8 Amps for short periods of time (last 1000-1500 mah)

usually only at big races where i was running behind and need the runtime, (23T, 8 min races)

when i step charge the charger has a feature where it doubles the amps for a fraction of a second. it switches from say 6 to 12, 6,12,6,12,6,12 etc for the designated amount of MAH's you choose. i've been step charging my packs since i got them and always get about 4300 or 4200 into a 3800 pack

I've tried 8 to 10amp charging a couple of times and always found that the car flew for 30 to 60 seconds and then died off, running slower then a comparitive 6 amp charge.
Not sure why this was the case!
