OK, good for you....If setup well they are fast, i'm not saying spools are good for every track.

dirtdustingdavo 07-09-2006 04:32 AM

Hmm

So what do hope to acheive in this thread? A debate?

PerformanceRC 07-09-2006 04:32 AM

Why are they the best in your opinion?

They suck, they are only a bodgey fix to a poor setup.

Michael.H 07-09-2006 04:48 AM

its hard to setup a car with a spool so its not a bodgey fix on a poor setup, i drive a lot faster with a spool than a one-way or diff.

They are all better for some conditions than others. Why is this a debate?

There just seems something inherently wrong with the *idea* of a spool - when a car turns, the left and right wheel *need* to roll different amounts. Simple physics. We put stupid amounts of strain on the drivetrain by running spools.

Having said that, I tend to personally like the spool because it's easier to drive for my over enthusiastic (read : heavy handed) style of steering input. I think it penalises me speed-wise quite considerably in stock class.

Most fast stock guys seem to run oneways at most tracks, as far as I can work out. Less resistance, more corner speed (but no front brakes). You seem to need to drive with some finesse to make a oneway work, specially if your car isn't set up well.

All generalisations of course...

If you don't like spools then don't use then, some of the best drivers in the world use spools (2004 tc worlds).
