Brushless
looking for a few answers on brushless systems from the resident oracles here, any help greatly appreciated.
I'm looking to move into 1/10 offroad electric racing and was wondering why brushless motor's haven't really taken off at a competitive level yet? The on paper specs suggest brushless's (such as velocity 4.5 or Nosram 3 or 4 star etc.) should be competitive against mod motor's, why do none of the top line guys use them for competition? Anyone have any experience of a brushless compared to a brushed mod motor? Thanks, Brad |
Hi
Hey,i recently owned a novak 5.5t brushless system and all i can say is WOW i dont know why people havent taken them on yet,i guess they dont wanna break their routine.
I think they are way better because of the super low maintanence and low battery consuption, dont get the LRP or nosram ones as they have lower punch that the novak,i would recommend the novak 6.5t velocity brushless motor with the gtb speedy...a 5.5 or 4.4 would just be to crazy for offroad. :deathstar |
If your interested in going for a brushless system I would highly reccommend you going for the hacker it is a little bit dearer as you will never have a problem with thermalling with this product. And by the way they are fast as well.

thanks guys.
Can anyone tell me if the velocity or lrp/norams are legal for 1/10 offroad racing? |
There were a few people who used brushless for 4WD mod at the Nationals last weekend.

Matt Griffen Qualified 3rd with a Nosram Combo last Friday. (4WD Mod)
Craig Laughton won the title with the LRP combo. |

Nosram is a re-badged LRP system.

Its been a long time since i've ran a brushed mod motor, been running the Novak 5.5 and 4.5 for quite some time. In very hot weather thermal shut down can become an issue, careful gearing is key, I guess it depends how hard you push the systems, overgearing is an easy mistake to make. Last few months i've been running the 4.5 Novak and all has been going fine, plenty of speed.
Zero attendance is one of the best benefits, normally a 5min run in mod results in 10-15mins work on the motor afterwards. |
Im very impressed with the size of the LRP Competition Sphere after seeing Besercoe's unit on the weekend. Should be a killer unit if it can handle a 4.5R Novak motor.

Novak GTB = 29.5mm x 37.8 mm LRP = 33.1mm x 37.6mm |
