Will do. My brother who works at the RAAF base reckons they'll blow onto the dunes tonight and blow themselves out if the wind doesn't change, but I'll check up with the Rural Bushfire Service tomorrow.

In the meanwhile, here is the last form guide. Also it looks like we might have filled our last Mod TC spot, just waiting for a PM back.

Form Guide: 12th Eurostock

Another class, another that's Greg Brooks' to lose. Brooks has two wins from two starts on Tour in this class. Last time out at Highway he was unstoppable.

Daniel Cotton* had a shocker at that round, barely scraping into the final and then relying on others' bad reliability to move up the order, but in Tamworth he had a good meet, qualifying 2nd and sticking with Greg for a lap or two. He's only been doing Eurostock practice for this event though, and two meets ago finished only 2 laps down to Greg's mod powered CRC. Cotton will be driving the latest SSE prototype in this class, the Dash-P3. Will a car with an oldschool design not developed for the billiard tables of Europe and the US be the edge he needs or will a lack of spares cost him dearly. So far it looks good but on race day anything can happen.

The other SSE driver is chief engineer Eden Watson. Watson is driving the older P2 chassis and isn't rated a chance by most, but Eden has a turn of speed, and driving this car at Thornton at the Moxey-Leeman round only Brooks put in a faster individual lap, and it took him until the final to do it. Watch out for Watson he could be a loose cannon.

Speaking of Moxey-Leeman, Leeman has retired since appearing on the podium of round 1. Rumour has it he has joined the press corps are will be filming the action. Moxey had his 12R5 working well at the last warm-up meet, again beaten only by Brooks. He's joined in class by fellow Newcastle drivers Roy Scully and Malcolm Sidney. Scully made the A in Tamworth, and Sidney was the last entered here after he spent a long time deciding between Eurostock or Mod after a very impressive away debut at the Summer Nats this year.

Alex Tyson was supremely fast at Highway Hobbies during the Carpet Burn. All through the lead-up he had his in-line CRC car turning on a dime and running at a pace not even Brooks could catch but then struggled to find consistency at the event itself. Since then he has gone through more cars than anyone can count and nobody is sure of whether he will turn up with a V-dezign, a CRC, an On-Point or a Yokomo. Whichever he chooses this will probably be his first asphalt run since the demise of the old Windsor track.

The man with the fastest individual lap at Tamworth wasn't Greg Brooks. It was in fact Jason Summers. The softly-spoken Oversteer aficionado is a clean racer who it is always a pleasure to go wheel-to-wheel with, but can he shed his nice guy image, grit his teeth and go for the win? The other two Oversteer drivers Tim Phillips and Lance Nunn have built up much experience in the class over the last year and will be strong performers, maybe they won't be fighting for the top step, but they will be there or there abouts pushing for an A-main berth.

Then there are two competitors from the north who will be looking to get into the A. Robert Powell is one of the most enthusiastic Queensland 12th racers at the moment. He'll be looking to take the experience he gains back to the sunshine state, so he'll want it to be a good experience. Carly Callcott may not have done much 12th racing, but her dad has plenty in the shed, so her pit crew will have the set-up knowledge required.

And then there are the other 10 Maitland drivers: Luke Olding, Stephan Broadley, Ron Taranto, Dean Pietrangelo, Brad Stafford, Drew Carnell, Drew Robson and his bitsa loosely based on an Xray, Darren Pryor, Rob Rutledge (who insists his car is banana coloured and not a lemon) and Dallas Gardiner. Most of the time these guys have only Astroturf to race on, so they are out in force for this event. If the track changes shape or develops a ripple with the heat half way through a race they'll be in best shape to adapt. Well, those of them who race the class regularly... As already mentioned Dallas Gardiner is having his first run with a little car since '89. Just to back that up Dallas messaged me during the week to ask about gluing foams on rims, and he was serious! We haven't needed to do that for a while Dallas. Drew Carnell is having his first run with a 12th period. And Luke Olding hasn't touched a pan car since the Maitland club stopped doing meetings at Raymond Terrace in 2010. It's going to make for some unpredictable and intense racing in the middle of the field.

The 22 cars in Eurostock added to the 11 in Mod makes this the best meeting for 12th in over a decade. It's going to be great to see them all on track.

Last time Dallas Gardiner drove 12th scale this man was Prime Minister (that's Bob Hawke kids, if Darrin Campbell had won at the Dallas Worlds he'd have declared a public holiday).

Entry List:
Daniel Cotton (M)
Dean Pietrangelo (M)
Alex Tyson (O)
Jason Summers (O)
Greg Brooks (O)
Robert Moxey (N)
Tim Phillips (O)

Default Bushfire Update

Bushfire Update

There was supposed to be an update on the situation at 9 am, but it hasn't come, so I'm going to relate the 6.40 am update. The Rural Fire Service has labelled the fire "Hank St Fire (Heatherbrae)", their full information is here: http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/dsp_content.cfm?cat_id=683

The fire is still burning out of control in the vicinity of Lisadell Road, which is on the other side of Medowie to the track around the edge of Grahamstown Dam. Seemingly it has burnt out a lot of the area between where it is now and the track.

The winds that were 70 knots yesterday have disappeared. It's now almost dead calm, which should help. It's also overcast and cooler which should help too.

Residents from Salt Ash, Fullerton Cove and Nelson Bay Road have been advised they can return to their properties. Flights reopened at the Airport at 8.30 am this morning, and there have been a number of flights in and out since.

There are currently a number of roads closed in the area including parts of Richardson Road, Cabbage Tree Road, Masonite Road and Tomago Road. Check www.livetraffic.com has full details.

Bushfire Update

There has been an improvement in the bushfire situation. The fire is now listed as "being controlled". Hopefully by this afternoon it will be listed as being under control.

Default Bushfire Update

Bushfire Update

Below is a map of the area showing where the fire has burnt out. Lisadell Rd, where the fire is still active is in the top right hand corner of the map.

The track is basically at the corner of Nelson Bay Road and Medowie Road, near the RAAF base in an unaffected area.

There have been some changes to the traffic conditions from earlier: The Pacific Highway has re-opened in both directions with a speed limit of 60km/h. Medowie Road East from Richardson Road to Nelson Bay Road is now open.

Richardson Road between Grahamstown Road and Medowie Road is still closed. As is Masonite Road between Cabbage Tree Road and the Pacific Hwy, and Cabbage Tree Road between Masonite Road and Nelson Bay Road. Tomago Road and Old Punt Road are both closed as well.

This means that at present the best ways to get to the track are either from Newcastle going via the Stockton Bridge on Nelson Bay Road, OR Turning off the Pacific Hwy onto Medowie Road

Rob Moxey has been to the track today and confirmed that it is unaffected.

Matching paint jobs, and personalised team shirt, nice.

Production hopefully isn't too far away. The bugs are almost all ironed out. We then have to work out whose shocks offer the best value for money, where to get cheap body posts, and tools, etc. and write a manual. We're still aiming for a retail price under $200 (incl. body).

Under $200 including a body, that is a total bargain.

That was our goal to begin with. We thought we could produce a car capable of winning for less than any of the others on the market.

Default Draft Grid Listings

Peter has produced the draft grid listings, and they are attached.

If you need to update any of your details here then send a PM to 'pete2' (NOT me).

The race order is a little unusual, but Pete has worked it out to try and minimise the number of people running back-to-back. There are a lot of people running more than one class, and since we allowed cross-entry this is a bit of a task.

In other news, Luke Chaffey is going to arrive with the scaffolding tomorrow before practice starts, but sometime after 11. If you can be there to help give us a hand put it up that would be great. This should mean we can run the short practice session Sunday morning. Assume 3 minute runs in race order.

We now have drivers on a reserve list. If you can't make it let us know.

Bushfire Update

The nearby fire is still rated as a Watch and Act by the Rural Fire Service. However both the designated evacuation centres have now been closed. Also, we're no longer important enough to make the News on ABC 24, not even in the captions.

Bushfire Update

Masonite Road, Old Punt Road and Cabbage Tree Road have been reopened. Advice is that these roads will continue to be assessed. But that does open up one more route to the track from Raymond Terrace via Masonite Road and Cabbage Tree Road.

Roads still closed are Richardson Road and Tomago Road.
