Default Chainsaw power!

I have built a (roughly) quarter scale dragster rail.
It's about 6 feet long, & is powered by a 44cc Poulon chainsaw.
The guys at the mower shop reckon they are made by Husqvarna. anyhow, I'm now at the stage of getting electrics. Here's the dilemma:
I can work all systems in the car with 2 channels only, so I think I've saved some bikkies here.
Will a resistor plug, shielded High Tension lead be enough to cut motor "noise"?
(I am a fully qualified auto electrician)
I know AM will be no good, But will FM be adequate? , or, will I have to go into something like what they use in helicopters?
I will be placing the receiver right down the front drop axle, the steer servo will only be about 2 cm away, and the throttle servo will live about 900 mm away. I can make any kind of power supply for the radio gear, so that's not an issue.
The only concern I have is:
I'm not looking for top shelf, but I DO want total control of this car! If it goes horribly pear shaped, there is no such thing as spares!!

If you isolate the motor on rubber mounts you should be fine. Also insulate the reciever from the metal frame (if metal). We run weedwacker motors and zenoahs in some boats with AM electronics and never have problems. Just be smart about running servo wires and such and you'll be fine. Hope she rips.

thanks for that, However I won't be changing the solid-mounted engine design. It's bolted down to a 5mm checker plate floor (alloy) & also supported at the cyl. head. Whole car weighs in at around 12kg. & probably will only gain a few hundred grams with battery & servos & body. Here's a few shots taken in Jan this year.

hey i run 1/4 scale Nascar style racing and we use a chromeoly chassis and I dont use any rubber to mount my engine. You will be fine with a simple FM radio. anyways shoot me some pics of your drag car. that thing looks cool...

If you have any other further questions feel free to ask just email me at [email protected]

Thanks

Hi brendan. Hope you can help. I've been asking around the RC community, & it seems a FM set-up will do ok for my 1/4 sc. drag car. I have 2 x hitec quqrter scale servos installed, & want to know about Hitec's FM transmitter/ receiver combo to do this job.
Thanks for your time.

In most setups an FM radio system will work. However since you are using a gas powered motor (chain saw motor) this might create more RF interference or noise that can affect the operation of the radio and receiver. If you do have these problems, the information that schmelme wrote in his post would help to resolve these issues.

For FM radios you have the choice of the Aggressor FM, SRX, or the CRX. Any of these will work for your application.
