JRAM62274- I'm surprised you're going through servos at such a pace, but they are all covered under warranty. Send them in and we will repair or replace them at no charge.

What do you guys think of the HS-5925? I have a birthday coming up, and have been eyeing the one at work. It would be for my XXX-S.

Anything else that your prefer over it? I have'nt done much for spec comparing yet, other than comparing it to my current servo, a 605BB.

Tres 04-02-2002 08:06 PM

TSR6: that's what I run in my XXXs.....

Works very well....

Gary Fliegel 04-02-2002 08:16 PM

Its our best!! What you will notice for sure is a big increase in speed and centering ability. You'll love the sqwaking noise it makes, I call it the sound of superiority, LOL.

Gary,

I was voted as having the most annoying car in my RC car club because of my Hitec digital servos. LOL Why are hitec digitals so loud? Ko Propo digitals aren't nearly as loud as these bad boys.

Gary Fliegel 04-03-2002 04:40 AM

I wish I could tell you why. Our digital 6 series of servos are real quiet, you have to listen very hard to hear them. What I have noticed is that once tha cars are moving no one notices them at all.

How much longer till you touch down in seattle? I am looking forward to meeting you this summer. I will be down at the Wenatchee race, and 2 races in Spokane, the Hank and the Regionals for Gas Off-Road. Hope to see you at one of them. TTYL.

I am not exactly sure when I will make it to the states. I am trying to sell my 1/1 car. Once it is sold, I just have to tell my boss what I really think of her, and I am outta here. i am hoping to be back by May.

I will definately be at the regionals, so I will see you there.

cmack 04-25-2002 06:42 AM

Hi guys... my first post, wohoo =) I recognize some of the users here from the HPI forums. Anyway, someone pointed me here as the authority for Hitec, so here I am. I've had my Lynx3d for about 6 months now, but all of a sudden I'm getting a range glitching problem (about 150 feet). I'm guessing it's antenna related, since it works perfectlly in short distances. I pulled the rx and checked the antenna for any signs of wear. I found one that wasn't bad, but I still threw a small piece of electrical tape on it too isolate it. I also noticed that my tx antenna when screwed in all the way is not tight (ie, it keeps on turning and is wobbly). It won't fall out and you can't pull it out... it just isn't a snug fit. I can't remember if this is normal or not? It doesn't seem normal, but I just might not have noticed it before since I didn't have a problem. Does this sound like the culprit, and what can I do to fix it?

Tres 04-25-2002 06:57 AM

cmack: Yes, that can be a problem and not normal.

I would take the antenna off and check for the threads.

If you have a someone you can borrow one from, try it.(antenna)

If that doesn't help, I would send it in. Turn around time is very good.

For info on sending it in go to:

Hitec RCD

and click support.

cmack 04-25-2002 07:10 AM

Thanks for the quick reply! I thought it was supposed to be snug! I pulled the antenna off and did a cursory check last night (eyeballed it and took a fingernail through the grooves) and they felt good. I don't personally have an extra antenna to test with, but I might be able to round one up at my track. I never torqued it down hard, but sometimes I take it off for storage, to prevent it breaking. Is it typically something that just wears out over time?

Darkseid 04-25-2002 07:24 AM

Sounds like you have a stripped antenna mount. Its not something that usually wears out over time, especially not in 6 months.

Your probably going to have to send your radio in.

cmack 04-25-2002 08:15 AM

Thanks Darkseid, I'll just send it in. What should I include? I take it I don't need to send in the receiver and tx nicad pack? Should I include the module and a crystal? I tested it with both a single and dual conversion rx and I'm getting the glitch with both at about the same distance, which led me to check out the radio antenna.

BTW, this is the only problem I've had with the Lynx3d! It's by far the best value and easiest to use transmitter I've come across. A lot of people at my track are running the Ko Propo Mars, M8's and a few JR R1's. There was a general consensus amongst the masses before I came along that Hitec's radios would be lesser quality because they were Korean built (even though a lot of the people were using hitec servos... go figure!). Let me just say that I was able to sway a couple of people just by letting them use it! No, people aren't trading their R1's for it, but a couple of people ended up getting it over the M8, 3PDF, and even the Mars! I also run all hitec servos (605mg, 615mg, and a micro 81mg) and again, I think they win the "best bang for the buck" award.

Tres 04-25-2002 08:35 AM

cmack: go to the link above for all the info...

Send it in with everything (Tx, Module, Rx & xtals).....

I am buying a Serpent Pro and I swear by the KO 2174 for Steering but I have heard good things about Hitec servos so I decided to try out one for my Throttle Servo. I bought the HS-5645MG but now I am thinkinng I should have bought the HS5625MG. What do you guys think? I have a NovaMega SX12 RE Michael Salven Edtion Engine. I have heard that the faster servo will probably be better. A friend of mine is going to get hte 625 Servo and he said that he would trade with me.

Thanks

Mike Webb

Gary Fliegel 04-26-2002 04:29 AM

I personally like having a faster servo for the throttle, make the response of the motor feel more like an electric. I am using a 5625 for the T/B duties in my XXX-NT and love it. If you want to trade with your friend, go for it. TTYL.

Why don't your servos center very well? I had a 615 and a 605 and neither of them centered very well. I can always tell if a car has a Hitec servo in it because it wonders going down the straight. I know it isn't my car because since I switched to JR servos the stearing always centers perfect now (I ran the servos in a TC3).

Gary Fliegel 05-09-2002 03:35 AM

Which JR servos did you switch to?

Avink1 05-10-2002 04:23 PM

8450. That's not the point, the hitec servos i had never cetered. They centered as well as an airtronics 94102.

MikeMayberry 05-10-2002 04:30 PM

Apples to apples?

The 8450 (.08@98in/oz) is a $115 digital coreless motor servo and costs well over double the 6XX series.

Let's compare apples to apples... I'll put our $90 digital coreless 5925MG (.08 @ 128in/oz) up against it any day. Guaranteed unbreakable with perfect 1us deadband centering and 384 in/oz of holding power.

Mike.

Avink1 05-10-2002 04:43 PM

Thats not what i'm trying to say. For how much torque you claim the 6** series servos to have i would expect them to be able to center in a sedan.

newracer 05-10-2002 05:46 PM

torque and centering ability are two different things, they aren't related.

Avink1 05-10-2002 10:28 PM

thats true, but the fact is that the servos still didn't center

Avink1 05-10-2002 11:00 PM

As for that apples to apples thing if you read my earlier post you will see that I said that a $15 airtronics servo centers as well as a $40 hitec servo. Sorry but your servos don't center very well. Just my opinion, don't take it personally or anything.

newracer 05-10-2002 11:02 PM

I have heard that the 600 series of servos don't center that well, personally I have never used one but have several 525MG's and they center perfect

you state you haven't had any centering problems since switching to JR, but Mike's point was that you also switched to a $115 servo as well, now if you compare Hitec's $90 servo to your new one I am sure the Hitec is just as good if not better. Likewise if you compare your old 600 series Hitec to a comperable JR...again the Hitec is just as good if not better

just need to compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges

Avink1 05-10-2002 11:04 PM

ok, my $15 airtronics servo centerd as well as the $40 hitec servo did. apples to apples right.

Avink1 05-10-2002 11:07 PM

I only paid $99.99 for my JR servo. Of corse that is going to center better. But, my standard servos like the 102 or even my JR 2750 center as well my Hitec servos did.

newracer 05-10-2002 11:10 PM

sure they both don't center very well, I guess

but my $35 Hitec's center perfect, even my 300BB's for $12 center fine also

like I said before I have heard of several people having problems with the 600 series not centering well, I think I remeber someone also saying it was due to the motor only being a 3 pole motor while others, like the 500 series have a 5 pole motor

it's just wrong for you to say "Why don't your servos center very well?" the lower end servos probably don't center perfect but what brands lower end servos do? not all of Hitec's servos have centering problems.

Avink1 05-10-2002 11:15 PM

sorry for saying that but I am just speeking from experience, thats all. And many of the people that I race with have problems with other Hitec servos, like the 5XX series, not centering well. My Airtronics and JR lower end servos don't center "perfect" but they center as well if not better than the Hitec servos that I have tried.

newracer 05-10-2002 11:54 PM

you don't have to apologize to me, I am in no way afiliated with Hitec, just all the equipment I have used from them has been great

I just don't like to see people generalize about products, good or bad.

Gary Fliegel 05-11-2002 10:57 AM

Ok, all of those servos that you are talking about were not designed to compete with the $100+ servos that are on the market. They were originally designed as a upgrade for a box stock servo. Metal gears, 2 year warranty, more reliable performance. No one was offering a reasonable alternative for the 90% of ppl who have RC's, the back yarder. If all you did was play with you car in the alleys and parks, would you want to spend $15 on servos all the time or get one for $40 with a 2 year warranty and metal gears? Thats what the original plan was for those servos. Unfortunately racers who bought them would complain about centering and durability. " Its not the same as my Air 257, Hitec servos are junk".

Now we have our High end 9 series of servos, and I'll gladly put any of them up against the any other manufacturer's servos. Yes some will get broken or fail, but which manufacturer has a zero failure rate on their servos??

Don't forget the first hondas weren't like they are today, but ppl used those original hondas for what they were meant for, cheap affordable transportation, not high end race machines. Even today if you try and bag the crap out of a bottom end civic, it will die very quickly. Does that mean that all honda cars are junk??

I hope this can clarify some things for you.

Avink1 05-12-2002 09:15 PM

Not really. You keep getting hung up about the compareson to the $100 servo. That isn't what I'm trying to get across to you. I'm just wondering why my $15 servos center as well as a $40 Hitec servo, thats what I am trying to get across to you. Honda rules!

Matthew Bailey 05-13-2002 05:14 AM

Avink,

Without making a servo digital, it ain't going to get any better.

yokomojo 05-19-2002 10:36 PM

Hitec guys:

Need your help with a problem:

I'm using a Novak XXL receiver 75MHz FM designated as Hitec. My transmitter is a Futaba.

On channels 84 and 85, the Futaba crystals work fine in the Novak. Channels 70 and 88 do not work in the Novak receiver. (The 70 and 88 TX crystals are fine - checked them with my Novak XXTRA receiver. The 70 and 88 RX crystals work fine in a standard Futaba receiver.)

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

Servo current draw

What's the peak current draw from HS-5925MG and HS-525BB? Or in other words, which BEC specs are required to do their best?

Matthew Bailey 05-23-2002 02:23 AM

yokomojo,

Check out the ask Futaba and novak threads. Oops, hitec are the only ones who care enough to have a thread! One more reason that I only run Hitec gear whenever possible.

Gary Fliegel 05-23-2002 03:09 AM

Hey Cole. IF you stall the servos they will have huge current draw. It looks like you are using these servos for a gas car so you shouldn't have to worry about a BEC, that only applies to electronic speedos. In that catagory, try to get a speedo with a 2 Amp BEC. Some of the lower end speedos have low current BEC's and can cause glitching due to insufficient power.

Off to Spokane for the Hank Perry!! Man Its gonna be great! TTYL.

Cole Trickle 05-23-2002 03:26 AM

Actually, I'm considering a steering servo for my secondary car, which are an electric touring car. It's a kind of budget car, since I'm going for value for money. I want to achieve a steering servo with speed around 0,10-0,12 sek / 60 degrees. I dont plan on using less than 12 turns motors.

I'm looking at the price of ESC plus servo. So one could be cheap and the other expensive, the point is to get the cheapest combo that meets the demands.

There are several ways to go:

1: Cheap ESC and a servo with 7,2 FET wire.
2: ESC with 6 volt / 3 amps and a 6 volt servo.
3: ESC with around 5 volt, and a servo with 0,10-0,12 sek / 60 degrees at 4,8 volt.

About option 3: Sounds attractive, but if the current limiting in the BEC are the bottle neck, it's not really an option.
