Lynx 3d module
#1
I've got a quick question about the 75mhz 3d module. I thought I read somewhere that if you want to change what frequency you're on (say from channel 69 to 72 for example), that you also have to change the module as well because the module only works with a certain channel. Any truth to this?

On the surface use equipment you just have to change the crystal in the module. If it were an aircraft radio then the whole module would have to be changed as the FCC does not allow trhe end user to change frequencies on these bands by changing just the crystal (the tuning is more critical).

The FCC ruling doesn't allow for any 75MHz crystals to be changed unless the module itself is changed. The reasoning for this is because of the narrow spacing between the channels makes it easy to get off frequency when you just change the crystal. It makes no difference if it's surface or air the tuning of the radio is the same and once you change crystal you may be subject to interference or cause interference to others.
That's the ruling but in the real world you can change the crystals and still be OK if the radio/module itself is in good shape. You may notice a slight chance of glitching if your module is tuned for a 61 crystal and you put in one for 90 which is at the opposite end of the 75MHz spectrum. But if you stay near the original crystal, say 65 or 66, you should have no problems.
Now Hitec has a 75MHz module that can be used on every channel from 61 through 90 without any problem (so they say) and that's using the Spectra synthesized module which in effect retunes the module every time you select another channel.

Jr, Hitec, and Novak make modules that are synthesized and can go to any channel. Most of them don't get radio hits and if they do it is normally just a quick fix. A few companies also make receivers like this as well.

MTN BKR,
Here is the part number for just a TX crystal for your radio (#67175xx). The XX is the channel number you need. This crystal will plug directly into your existing module. You do not have to change the module in this radio in order to change the frequency. If you want the synthesized SPECTRA module (it has all the channels on the 75 mhz band) then that part number is #24475.
