Could you explain the how to hook up the DSC harness when using 2 servos (no ESC)? Specifically does the harness need the RX batts hooked up to it in this scenario or does the harness supply power to the servos via the Transmitter's nicads. The wording in the manual regarding this doesn't make sense to me.

So i hook up the DSC plug to the extra plug on the switch harness I plus the DSC cable into the Radio (with the power switch Off) the Transmitter turns on. I then turn on the RX switch, the servos respond, however they don't respond to any transmitter settings. Could my DSC cable be bad?

You need a "Y" harness, not the extra wire coming off the power switch, it is for charging.
Disconnect one of your servos and connect the power switch into that port on the Rx.
Now connect the DSC where the power switch was, and turn everything on.
This is only for a test, as you won't be able to test both servos.
FYI: If you a 3 ch Rx, just connect the power switch to CH 3. Then put the DSC in the DSC/Batt port.

Ok i tried both of these methods and neither of them worked. Same results, i get no servo response from the Radio controls.
I've also noticed that the Servo on channel 2, when the Transmitter is on, doesn't work right either. The Servo will turn in one direction only from center point. I tested it on another servo with the same result. I've tried this with the reverse on and off still same thing happens.
I wondering if the Radio is still messed up. I'm starting to get pretty frustrated here... i've sent this thing in once already.

Try this:
The XXtra receiver will work with all DSC cords. Insert the
input plug on DSC cord into the receiver’s BAT/DSC input
slot. Refer to the manufacturer’s operating instructions for
details on using the DSC cord feature.
If you do not have control of the servos when the DSC cord is
connected to the transmitter and the receiver, reverse wiring
sequence in the DSC cord input plug plastic and try again.
This is per the instructions from Novak on the Xxtra.

You guys are making me dizzy bouncing back and forth. Let's get back to basics.
1- On the "off" side of the switch, there are 2 sets of wires-- the female end goes to the bat pack, the male is your DSC/charge plug.
2- On the "on" side of the switch is 1 set of wires with a male plug-- this goes to the receiver.
3- To use the DSC function-- plug the appropriate end into the transmitter, then plug the female end to the DSC/charge plug from the switch. Don't worry about the male plug on the DSC cord ( I've never been able to plug that into the receiver and get power). Once the female is plugged into the DSC/charge plug, simply turn on the switch (uses the receiver pack to power the servos). The DSC function will work perfectly with no outside interference. The only variation from how Hitec designed it is that you are using and outside power source (receiver pack) to power the servos.
4- Now the trick. The female DSC cord from the trans is setup to work with the Hitec Receivers. To get it to work with the Novak, you basically have to reverse the position of the wires in the female plug (as Tres mentioned).
What I did was simply remove the outer plastic case (in essence making it a male plug, but with pins sticking out). See first pic. The reason I did this is because I have both the Hitec dual conversion receivers and the Novak XXTRA receivers. This way I can plug into either type of receiver without hassle. In the second pic, you'll notice the wires are "backwards". This is plugged into the Novak.
Hope this helps some. If something still doesn't work correctly after you do this, you have problems elsewhere (like the trans).

Thnx guys i found that reversing the polarity on the DSC RX plug worked. I'm still gonna try your method tekrsq as it much easier to deal with...
Tres you never addressed the other problem i've been having maybe you read the post before i edited it. here's a qoute from the post:
This problem is still there in DSC mode as well. I don't have ASB on and i've messed around with the settings as recommended in the Racer's Tip section of the manual for setting up brakes. The servo actually turns but only slightly and not nearly enough to apply the brakes. Any ideas?
