Where is your timing set on the can and if you can measure it, internally? How close is the ABC sensor alignment? Last, what diameter tire are you using and what battery/esc? Could be several factors but I know tire size is critical for 1/12.
Stock rotor you should be able to pull a taller gear than say a revtech and see if that may help.

I also tweak my timing so it is just prior to when I see a large surge in amp draw on a motor analyzer. In other words, I advance the timing until I see the amp draw spike, then back off from that mark a degree or so to get the efficiency back (amp draw down) and then leave the timing right there. Each motor I time this way and it seems to perform best and not get too hot. Also, each motor I have found is different in regards to this sweet spot even when comparing same turn motors.

My timing started at 43.5 deg on the motorlyzer with a deviation of 2 deg (43.4 41.8,42.2) with an amp draw of 3.8 on the 17.5. My tire size was 41.5mm. I went up to 46.5 deg and 5amps with a 71mm roll out.....brutal slow. Went down to 38deg timing and 88mm roll out....it started to come alive but still many laps off the pace....I went to 30 deg timing and 92mm roll out which was the best run of the day but still 2 laps down....and it came off the track at 150deg f. My 13.5 was similar..the best run was at 32 deg timing rolled out at 83mm , off at 145deg f.

That is really strange. How many cars are ahead of you? I spoke to a guy, I know, that runs the V6 in 1/12 on-road. He says he's up there with there with the front pack all the time and comes off with a 145*-150* motor. His timing is set to about 47*. He is also pulling harder out of the corners and there is about 3 other guys using the same motor with one of them always finishing in the top 3. Have you tried checking to see if your drive train is spinning freely?

In 17.5 at the last trophy race I was 10th on the grid and in 13.5 at a different trophy race I was back in the C main...the previous year at the same 2 races I was 5th on the grid In the A for 17.5 on the same lap as the leader and in 13.5 I was 4th in the A, 1 lap down to TQ. After every run I move the motor out of the way and spin the axle to check for carpet fuzz and bearing noise. Every 3 runs I replace the bearings on all corners even if I don't tap.

Have you tried checking your amp draw with the motor in your car and your car on a stand?

update 2. Went to big time dirt oval race. 150 entries. Installed 13.5 in my street stock. There were 4 or 5 heats. The motor again ran awesome. I posted the fastest street stock time. locked timing this time at 45 blinky. Temps were 130 with fan.

What motors are the top 3 running?

I ran some tests. Try the lighter rotor in your Surpass V6. It will not have as much punch, but it will be more efficient at full throttle. This will also give you a higher top speed on really fast tracks.
