I bought one a few yrs back and can't for the life of me remember if the bit is carbide or diamond-tipped. I swear it was diamond-tipped. I'm selling and want to be honest. I know it'll change the $ greatly. Any way I can tell?

If you look at the tip closely....you will see that the point of a carbide bit is usually of the same material as the rest of the tool(just sharpened)......and a diamond bit tip Is a complete different material (A diamond chip) inlayed into the steel or carbide tool...very easy to tell..I'd guess that if your having difficulty telling it's most likely a carbide tool bit.........

a brazed carbide tool(standard lathe bit)will have a steel shank with the tip being carbide brazed into the tool stick.carbide is usually a light grey to almost light purple look.a diamond tip tool is going to be made in the same fashion but the tip will be a high gloss shiny black.very hard to mistake.

Thanks for the replies! Confident that it's diamond. At the end where it's ground down it's shiny silver, then black at the tip.
