Default Good Charger? Frying Batteries :-(

Hi All,
I have a few questions about electric racing.

1. If you are racing both Stock and 19T classes, so you guys have 8 fully charged batteries on hand, 1 for each race?

2. What is a good charger to charge 3300 6 cell packs? Prefereably one that is a quick charge. Looking for something that could recharge inbetween races.

3. I paid allot of money for my charger 4-5 years ago and I am tired of frying batteries with it. I was charging my receiver pack for a nitro car last night at 1 amp and it started to smoke at the end of the charge and melted some of the plastic. This also happened with a 3000mah NiMH pack by trinity. My charger is a Apex Sigma, don't think they make them any more. It cost $140 back then. It is a AC\DC charger that charges 4-9 cells. Charge current range is .5 - 6.5A. It was made by Magma International LTD. The instructions indicate charging at 1a a 1100mAh receiver pack should take between 30-60 minutes...but it is more like 3 hours. I forgot to mention, I always fully discharged the batteries before they were charged.

It is possible that your batteries are old. If not take a look at the Orion's Advantage charger, they say with the step charging function the batteries will be colder at peak.

Good chargers also:
LRP Pulsar Competition 2
Intellipeak Ice from Duratrax

High end chargers:
CE Turbo GFX
Futaba CDR-5000
Integy 16X-G40 (not realeased yet)
Spintec I.C.C. (not released yet)

These are all 12V chargers so you'll need a good (preferably 14+ AMP) power supply.
