Kit motor
Our f1 class is going to be the kit motors. We wanted it to be cheap for people to get started in and with as slow as they are, crashes are a lot less likely.
I have a question about the high speed gear set, is it too high a gear for the kit motor? Is it meant for 27turn motors?

Thanks for visiting our website, and yes, i agree with you on the mabuchi motor. It will be easier for people to join in and the speed won't be as intimidating. For the fast guys, this should not be a problem either, if you're fast, you are fast with a mabuchi, stock, or 19T.
the high speed gear set gives you a ratio of 5.88:1, which is fine for mabuchi. The kit mabuchi is no longer the silver, but a slightly faster sport-tuned one. The fun part about mabuchi is you can have one guy gear high and one guy gear low, and one would be faster on the straight and the other will catch him in the infield

Actually, we are leaving the gear ratio rule alone, and I'm thinking about stretching the main time to 10 minutes. This way we have a loose control on the gearing, but still allow flexibility in there for racers to gear their cars differently.

au contraire! Jun is actually using silicon diff oil on that setup. I'm not sure what brand, though. Most guys in the Bay Area are using Mugen 3000 weight oil. The oils that are rated as #300, #600, etc. more or less translate to Trinity weights if you take the last zero off, so #300 oil is about the same viscosity as 30 weight oil.
