True, but here is the dilemma if you race on asphalt with different particles in it, strip pulley or strip belt?
Both result in DNF, both require same time to fix. Plastic pulley is cheaper though... but aluminum looks cooler

Any thoughts?

Both happened to me
Speaking from experience... DON'T use aluminium. Once it starts to wear all it does is start to slip and strip rear belts, particularly when running a 4 turn

Going back to plastic has solved my rear belt issue.

I noticed a wear on my aluminum and now installed back the plastic. I used to strip 1 belt per 2 sessions...
Let's see what will happen with the plastic

will the Photon Ex rear belt fit on the original photon? just snapped one and the EX is the only one in stock locally lol

it does fit!! , i'm using low friction belt from the Photon.

Yeah rear belt is the same. Front belt is longer on the EX.

So i had aluminum pulley but wanted to try the plastic one and it didn't take long for the 5.5T motor (boosted) to rip thru the pulley's gear on the rear belt side. Is it just my luck or the plastic ones suck?

I ran Numerous packs with a 4.0 (no boost) with no problems. I do run the belts tighter in MOD.
