The GP3300 has 15% more capacity than the current 3000's. The voltage is 1.13-1.15 volts @ 30 amps. The Actual IR is real good.

So far track testing has been very positive. They also seem to hold up very well.

danny - of all the sanyo and panasonic packs i've run, the panasonics are stronger at the end of the run. the HV seems a little flatter. this was charging both at 5 amps. the hv did have a little more at the beginning of the run over a SMH pack, but on the second run of a SMH, the were even off the line. am i completely missing something? this was just my track tests

Shrekair, Danny recommends that you use a .07 for cutoff on 6 cell packs. Plus they should be charged at 6 amps but you can go higher. This is on his website under "products" and "maintenance".

Personally I have been using 7-8 amps without negative effects. They seem to work ok for me but your experiences may be different.

ok thats one part, second - how do HV's compare to SMH pack over the course of a run? thats what we are discussing. i just used a medium of 5amps as a test to see how they perform and at 5 amps batterys should get too hot of be over worked in anyway for a true test. and i generally charge at 5 amps out of habit. he was disagreeing w/ my findings that a smh pack has more power over the voltage curve, he thinks the HV does.

shrekair: I think what is happening is your not getting a good charge out of your HV's. As I stated in my earlier post the HV's are built differently than Panasonics and require a different charging profile to get the most out of them.
The Panasonic cells will get hot with a low charge rate and peak detect. A hot cell will perform better than a cooler cell. So you need to get your HV's hot to do a good test.

so then for a balanced test what charge rate should i run in the SMH vs HV ? (amp + peak detect) thanks

HV charge 6amps peak cut off 0.07 discharge 30amps
SMH charge 6amps peak cut off 0.02 discharge 30 amps

Danny - are you saying that if charged correctly (6amp or higher charge and .07) the HV's will not taper off towards the end of the race. Also have you heard of using a .12 peak detect on HV's, what do you think of this practise.

Rowdy: On 6 cell packs I use .09 with an 8 to 10 amp charge. We have used as high as 12 amps with good results.

We have never experienced this tapering of at the end in fact we have always noticed that the HV's didn't taper off compared to Panasonics.
This is why I'm surprised to hear of racers saying that HV's taper off.

We have won several major races with HV's and in all our tests we believe this to be the better cell to run.

Agreed, while I don't have any experience with the newer UMH's, I do have some packs of SMH's(that I've been using in my 1/12 scale car), & some 3000HV's in my TC's, & the only packs that seem to drop off early have been the Panasonics. I've never noticed any kind of drop off with the HV's, while their punch in the early stage of a race may not quite be the same as the Panasonics, they just seem to keep going more consistent than about any other batteries I've ever used(& I've been doing this for over 13 years). I'd say if your HV's are dropping off early then you may not be treating them right.....

I don't have either HV's or UMH but I am looking at buying some soon. I was going to go with the UMH because I had heard of this tapering in the HV's and also that their life is not as long but know I'm not so sure.

When I'm charging my HVs up at 6 amps, linear with 4mv voltage drop per cell, they come off REALLY hot, is this normal? Danny said a while back to charge with a 7 or 8mv drop to get the cells warm so they work better, so why are my cells getting so hot with a smaller drop?

are use using 4mv per cell (which is 0.004v), or 40mv per cell (which is 0.04v).

With 4mv per cell (which is 24mv per pack), they shouldn't get warm at all.

with 40mv per cell (which is a huge 240mv/0.24v per pack), they will get darn hot.

Danny's been talking about 70mv PER PACK (0.07v), not per cell.

Agreed, I've been using a 7-9mV threshold on my HV's(at 5 amps)& they seem to come off just right(still a bit warmer than NiCd's, but I don't think they get too warm)....
