Default RS4 3 SS wheel/tire options?

What are some good "parking lot" wheel/tire combos i can use.

I think the stock setup is 26mm....could I run 31mm on the rear...and 26mm on the front?

It seems that a wider wheel would provide more surface for the car to grip....is that correct?

thank you

Most parking lot racers use rubber tires 24mm wide. 24mm is a good balance of width and traction. When the tire gets wider, the contact patch becomes too wide. It may not seem to make sense, but look at what the fast guys are running. I have had good results with Sorex 36r and HPI 33r. A lot of people run takeoff as well, but I haven't tried them.

Don't skimp on the inserts. I like the HPI green for all around use. I run in Southern California so the pavement is usually pretty hot. You might need a colder temp tire depending on where you race. The best thing to do is to ask the fastest racers what they are running.

Rapid,

thank you for the reply. I have not heard of sorex...do you have a website for them?

I am in Georgia....so we get all sorts of temps..cold, warm, and VERY hot and humid. I am looking for something to run now, where the temps can be anywhere from 35-50 any given day.

Let me know

Thank you

I run this car, I use the HPI Belted Xpattern on stock mesh wheels, great tire wear I have had them for about a gallon through the engine and still a ton of tread.

If you want a rubber tire that runs well in all temperatures, get some Yokomo 138Gs with HPI green or red insert. I used to run this before we switch to foams. I also tried the Sorex, and while the were cheaper you had to have different compounds for differetn temps. For Sorexs I used to run the 36s, with the same inserts as above. I tried the 40s, but they took about 2 minutes to heat up, they were too hard. I also tried the 32s, but these were too soft, they would overheat and loose traction.

Anyways, if I had to choose a rubber tire to run nitro now, I would go for the yokomos.
