Tire Question.

Tire Question.
It seems like every 2wd buggy and truck out there has front rib tires. I have been trying to figure out why? I have seen 2wd trucks that put mini pins, step pins or other type of rear type tyres on the front, on the web, but never at the local track.
Is there any reason that front tires are more often ribbed instead of treaded?

Just asked the guy's at the local track about that this last week. They do run front pins and such here on this track.
His explanation was that the step pins have less side bite compaired to the ribbed tires. Guys use this as a tuning tool to let the truck push a little more in the corners and keep the truck from traction rolling.
Havn't seen any 2wd buggies doing this yet though.

I believe losi has the closest tire for buggy -> http://losi.com/Products/Features.aspx?ProdId=LOSA7207P
there is also a brief explanation of what they are used for.

pin fronts
You can run the pin front tires when your car doesn't have enough front traction and wants to push through the turns. They have more steering than the ribbed front tires. Just another way to tune the car. If they have to much steering then you can go back to the ribbed front tires.
We run them when the track is real wet and the ribbed tires tend to push.
hope this helps.
