The balancing question is a tricky one. The benefits are potentially longer battery life and increased safety while charging. The downside is $50. You can choose and live either way.

Bantam BC5 is a good compact charger. I went out on a limb with one of these and have only had it for a couple of weeks. Seems to be performing very well so far. They can be found around $125 with balancer built in - eg http://shopping.rcmodel.hk/product_i...oducts_id=9559. Note mine did not include all the different harnesses, just one harness with the charger plugs on one end and bare ends the other.

For car use 2S lipo...(orion 4800/3200).......I like the FMA Scorpion ($90). Back on the track in 20 minutes safely!

(1) Hyperion 1210i charger http://www.maxamps.com/EOS1210i.htm

(2) LBA6S Balencers http://www.maxamps.com/LBA10.htm

I have the Hyperion 1210i and the LBA6S balencers andit is great. The charger will charge at 2s and it gives you all the info you will ever need on your pack that is charging. You can also hook up (2) balencers to 1 charger and charge 2 packs (identical packs) at once. Almost like having 2 chargers, nice. The menus are easy and it will charge and discharge nimh too.

Competition Electronics Turbo 35 GFX LiPo Ready

Checkpoint TC1030

LRP Pulsar 3

Duratrax Ice

Depending on your budget I feel threse are the 4 best chargers on the market

I always use an external cell balancer. Either the Thunder Power or AstroFlight Blinky!

Bantam makes chargers for a whole lotta people.

Here is their site: http://www.bantam.co.kr/

Look at the chargers on that site and compare them to a few others more commonly seen.

That charger is made by Bantam. And is also the same as the new
OFNA charger.

No one has mentioned the e-station bantam bc8 either. It is pricey but it will charge all your lithium cells, nimh, pb, and balance too.

If all you are going to charge is 2S lipo, I'd say go for the Scorpion 2S. It is cheap, only $70 from FMA direct and charges at 10A.
