I have some anodized aluminum and titanium parts that the color has faded out and they look really crappy and I was wondering how I could remove the anodizing.

I am not sure if you can re anodize alum. To anodize alum. it is an electrical process with chemicals and it was my understanding that it can only be does once. I could be totally wrong so don't quote me on it.

He wants to remove the anodizing, not re-do it. Use easy off, it will take it off!!

Heavy Duty oven cleaner is the way to go. just make sure its fresh and not the last bit in the can, I found the last bit does not work as well as a new can.

you can reanodize aluminium and change the color .. of course if you strip it and polish it before hand the finish is much better ...

Just spray it on and let sit for 24 hrs and rinse, re-apply if necessary!!

i have tried the easy off, and it did not work!

but i haowever did not leave the cleaner on for 24hrs as mentioned above. but i wiped it off after an hour or so becuase i heard somewhere that if left on too long, it could pit the aluminum!

i'm confused, what truly works???

Easy-Off worked for me. I cut the top off a pepsi can and soaked some parts in the oven cleaner for a couple hours and then spun them on a drill with steel wool and then polished them with some brasso and a terry cloth.

Easy off works, but it’s harsh and will turn your aluminum black and leave it dull and ugly. If you do easy off, a couple hours is all you need, after which you have to clean & polish your parts. This is a lot of work. I would not do 24 hours, and I would monitor parts in easy off every 15-20 minutes.

Some suggest "lye & water" but the effect is the same as easy off and you can pit your aluminum with lye as well.

There is such a thing as "anodizing stripper" that is safer for the aluminum, but I am not sure where to source this product.

Can you de-anodize/re-anodize titanium parts like turnbuckles?

yes you can de anodize and re anodize titanium it is a bit easier than aluminium in my eyes lots of hi end bike shops have the equip to do this ... all you have to do is etch the titanium and then basicaly you dead short or heat up the titanium til it changes to the color you are looking for ...

do you have to use any dye or chemicals or anything? Because my turnbuckles look like they were dyed or something.
