it is not in sportsman mode.we run 5800 motors with the 19 turn cars at our local track with some very fast people.every weekend is like a national event.therefor we all have some very sick 19's.oval may be different due to the gearing you guys run.we would thermal in about 1 minute due to the constant stop and go driving.the 5800 may be a nasty motor with oval gearing.in onroad or offroad conditions,it will get humped in the mod class.i fight to keep up with paul wynn down the straight away with my 4.5 in mod.if i ran the 5800 i would get punted.

When I put it in full mod, one of my 12dbl's barely beat it. I'm not arguing whether or not about anything. I just want to know if you guys are running the 5800 in mod or sportsman mode?
Good question about what mode. I have to say I am befuddled too. I hear from reputable sources (Jason, Adrian and others . . .) that the 5800 is like a strong 19t, but my personal experience just doesn't match up. I was pretty sure the guys running 19t at our track were proficient at building them and able to get 95% of the umph out of them. Now I am not so sure. I am not as good as a driver as some of them and on a good day can keep up with my 4300. I am wondering if the mode or type/brand of esc could be the difference?

Sorry guys. I wasn't even thinking of where I was posting. The 5800 is definately killer in Oval. I apologize again, I'm still new to on-road. I can definately see where it would be good comp against a good 19t in on-road.

In Oval it's almost always wide open.

I was running 5.9 the last time out. The track is about 220ft runline, hardpack and very fast. And it was about 110f track temp.

You may also want to take a closer look at the faster 5800s, with the velociti rotor upgrade they are comparable to the reedy 8.5 (1star I think) and noticbly faster than a 19T.

the 5800 is a 8.5 turn.i do want to get the rotor update but i dont think its going to be that much different.i think it is not supposed to run as hot and allow for more gear.i could be wrong though.i will be getting the update shortly and i will let you know how it compares

Hi Guys, Maybe some of what I've heard about will help you decide, or perhaps confuse things further.
For offroad, the 8.5 (that's the ss5800) in standard form, is better then a nineteen turn. At least from the customers and racers I've spoken with.
For Touring Car, the 8.5 in standard for is better then a 19 turn.
Both situations from what I've heard are very noticably faster.
Now, the 10.5 (that's the ss4300) has been reported to very close to 19 turn for a lot of situations, mostly oval and 4 cells.
With TC guys, For very close competion tracks, the 10.5 may be a tick slower then 19 turn, but way faster then stock.
Now, take the updated SS rotor, put that into either and they both get slightly faster. Actually, the magnet is stronger and more resistant to overheating damage, so you end up gearing up about 1 tooth, sometimes not. Depends on the driver style and car setup, but it's more noticable in 6 cell stuff then 4 cell. Most of the 4 cell guys reported no difference.

I tihnk the comparable motor really depends on the track size.
On my home track my 5800 is beating some quick 10's and is keeping up with some 9's, on the infield it is even matching the 3star I tihnk, (the 7 turn equivelant one)
it is a great little motor and is fast enough for me
