how do you guys do it??? Soap and water???

Me-

Soak in some Swarfega clean thoroughly.. rinse repeat.. then Dry throughly
If filter is looking bad.. wil chuck if not will reuse-And re Oil.... I will normally use A filter 3-5 Times.. then chuck. But in the summer more oftern.. as its more dusty ect. And replace mine.. through out the day of racing too..

Does no harm to be extra picky.. specially when A fouled filter can eat a £200+ Motor in mins...

I usually soak 3 or 4 air filters all together in a bowl.

Soak all of them with thick clothing detergents for 1 hour.

Change the water, and repeat the above step for 1 hour again

Dry them

Right away re-oil the filter and put all of them in small container.

i am worried about the extent of drying them, being any water is superbad for the engine. I have been using a hair dryer. How much air filter oil should i use??? Seems like it takes half a bottle to properly saturate it.

I chuck a few at a time in a ziplock bag.. and squeeze in some airfilter oil.. squish it around.. and make sure there all coated.. So if I was to touch the foam, my finger would be a little greasey from touching it. Some people drench them, some dont.. I make sure there covered.. but not so there soaking..

If you use some of the moto oils(I use BelRay), they have some ingredients which don't get broken down by normal soaps. Try spraying the filter down and saturate it with WD40 first, which will mix with the main oil, then rinse with Simple Green. Filter will look new.

If you don't use the WD40 even brake cleaner won't get the filter totally clean.

Some weird chemical mumbo0jumbo but it works.

If you're using oil (solvent) based fluid then use mineral spirits (paint thinner) or Naptha (dries faster than spirits). If it's alcohol based (Rock Oil) then soap and water will do it.

I just use soap and water, don't really need to oil it, although I'll pick up a new filter and some oil soon.

Don't need to oil it because we have 0 dust where I live in CT, and I have yet to race, just bash, so I don't have to worry about others kicking up dirt and stuff into the air.

That is brave, You should always oil them.. even if your running on concreate.. Not worth the Rish IMO.. $5 Oil filter oil.. $$$ Engine...

Well we just had rain everyday for almost 4 days, and it's been below 60 since last September, so the ground is plenty wet. Plus I have yet to be able to get to the LHS in a while......and this thread reminded me to pick some oil up. (45 minute one-way ride, plus an average hour plus wait at the store = not worth it for $5 oil, imo)

I don't want to pay more for shipping than the thing costs, and waiting 5+ days is not fun. Plus I'll see if he has any other pipes than the JP-4, and see what the owner/other racers recommend, can't do that with an online store.

This hobby is getting REAL expensive real fast (thanks Traxxas, love the Slash, but soon as you go brushless, crap starts breaking)

i always soak them in hot water and a strong mix of Dish Detergent like Dawn
work the water and soap trough them and rinse them clean look good as new after drying overnight
