Does that change handling at all?
From the looks of Cav's car at the Horizon Race I don't think he ran a battery strap either. Looks like a lot of people are not.

I'm on my 3rd B5m, none have ever had a battery strap in them.

Gotta have a REALLY big lipo bag for those picky tracks....

Default Hub inserts

This maybe a total noob question. On the camber link inserts (plastic rear hubs) which is A and which is C? Would A be the one closest to the wheel and C closest to the transmission? The manual does not tell which way to look at it unless I missed it.
I'm fairly new to the b5m.

Inside is A then go out from there...B, C being the outside

If the top shaft gear was bigger, more teeth, then lift it up a little and bring the motor closer to the rear, maybe. Camber link will likely be in the way if it doesn't fit.

Well if it is possible, then there'd be less weight too. From 4 gear to 3 gear depending on which way the motor is facing or gears turning, the car became more balanced during acceleration and breaking, more predictable/consistent, responsive too. Less gears=less play resulting to quicker response, and less weight.

Since the top shaft gear is small adding teeth changes the gear ratio a lot. More than the corresponding changes in the larger gears. At least that is what I ran into when I looked into it during a similar conversation a while back.

A 2 gear would be similar to a 4 gear for handling-weight transfer. The key difference between 3 & 4 gear is the direction of motor rotation and thus torque reaction and inertia effects. 2 gear would be same as 4 gear.

What advantage are you guys seeing from not running a battery strap? More flex? Better handling?

when you dont hit anything.....no battery strap is a great plan....

ive seen some "amateur self proclaimed pro racers" try it and dnf or gain a poorly handling car after whacking the wall or corner pipe and dislodging the battery

just an opinion, battery strap is there for a reason..

I run one of 5 B5Ms without a strap and don't see a big difference. I've literally tried almost every chassis combo possible between the stock chassis, Lite, SLRC, and Infinity. Cutting the cradle seems to be the way to go. I understand in theory why you'd want to not use a strap but if you cut the cradle into 2 pieces the strap won't make much of a difference. Just my observation. I have no empirical scientific data to support my hypothesis.

Consistency.

QDRHRSE didn't notice a difference because he's not a noob that cranks the battery down as hard as possible.

Not running the strap allows you to get rid of a binding point. I noticed with a strap and gorilla locking the battery down, you can bind the chassis up pretty bad. When doing certain mods that allow flex, you can also lead to the strap popping out.

You also lose the strap when you run certain fan setups.

There's a few reasons why certain people don't run it. It still hasn't been talked about, I think, but the world champ does not use a battery strap.

That's very true. I run the battery strap pretty loose. Still, making sure the cradle is completely separated and not too tight either will allow for a lot of flex even with a strap. I'm really consistent but not so fast. I'm definitely not pushing my cars to the limit.
