To regulate, Or not?

Ok i personally will not run a reg in a off raod Buggy,Truggy,ect. The drit ,Dust ,water, and abuse that these cars go thru will cause a problem down the road. With rec, servos, and batterys the reg is adding 1 more thing that can go wrong! I run the 3pk synth and jr 9100 and 8711 no reg in Truggy. Have no issues doing this. Now with airplanes, Helis and even onroad cars i would consider running a reg, they do not get treated like a off road vehicle! Just my 2cents:

the XRC article basically stated that Until servo's and Receiver's are labeled to handle the voltage of an Unregulated 2 cell they do not suggest using them.

Of course they didnt recommend it. The official word from the manufacturers is not to do it if they were to say it was OK it would open them up to problems.
Its a gamble no doubt. I figure if I am going to take a risk at least I can get the added speed and power out of it.
I must admit I do run the KO 2.4 system which is labeled as being able to handle the extra power so the servos is the only thing I am risking.

seems like i know more guys unregulated than running them. and out of them all, i only know of 1 out of dozens that had glitches,and whos to say that its from the nonregulation. i kind of felt like not only spending the $40 each on lipos then the regulator was a bit steep but then again whats not steep around here

It is basically a risk either way. If you run a reg, the reg could screw up and kill something. If you don't run a reg and cook a servo, again, you could kill something. I guess the bigger question is which is the cheaper death?

Its hard to say because either could fail and cause a runaway which is always the worst case scenario.

KO is the only one I know that have 2 servos that don't need regulators. But you going to pay more for them

there was a time that the Hitec 5955 or 5995 or One of the hitec Ti servo's was rated for 7.4v but for the life of me cant find the spec sheet to back it up....but i KNOW for a fact i saw it at some time.

Hitec, I believe I have read this somewhere...the Ti series are actually Robot servos, re-geared for RC purposes and are safely capable of running 2S LiPo direct.
JR is also on the verge, if not already, to release 2S safe LiPo direct servos.

Yes, Hitec High Voltage Version Only.
I use normal Hitec 5955TG in my buggy, Futaba PCM 1024 receiver, and direct wiring from battery plug to receiver without regulator.
Caution : I use Sony Lithium Ion 3.6V x 2 cells = 7.2V. 1 year old now. I think Sony CR123A rechargeable Lithium Ion.
The servo turns noticebly faster than with 6V nimh.
