As Dan had stated bearings and belts (batteries of course) is the key in the North American GT3 & GT2 classes. Because the motors can be under powered in these classes you don't need to worry about the belts skipping.

I generally cook the bearings in an Integy cleaning box for about 4 hours (if new) and run VERY light oil... nearly dry.

The belts can give your a couple of choices. I opt for the low friction hop-up set. I soak them in WD40 for several days to help free them up. Or you can run old belts, they seem to work well also.

When tightening the top deck try to shorten the overall lenght of the upper chassis...if that makes sense. It will provide you with a front belt that is more loose.

Beyond that not much else can be done. I run my GT3 car with one-way diffs and pulleys.

Does anyone here use side by side packs on their Ta04-R (tub chassis) ? Is this even possible?

I'm keen on picking one up so I can add a Tamiya belt car to my collection.

I use side by side packs in my car and you just need to position your connectors differently to get the batterys to sit correctly. Rick

0 deg mounts.....it comes with 2 deg rear hubs to give you the toe in.

One more thing. What advantage will I get if I also use the alum. front suspension mounts?? TIA!!!

Have any of you guys played guitar with your front belt?

I just got a new bottom chassis and it does seem awfully tight. The belt is well broken in what have you done to resolve this?

I can play a mean tune on my TA04 TRF!

Seriously, this was a BIG letdown with the car. The belt is way too tight for decent acceleration or efficiency.

I tried to resolve the problem by shaving the top plate and compressing the chassis. Now all I have is a seriously tweaked car!

I'll be reverting back to the carbon tub chassis and an old belt from my TA04-R.

yep its a perfect fit!!! Just installed mine (front n Rear)
slop is gone!! and you can do 3.5 degrees of toe in the rear.

I really wish someone could explain why the 04 series has really tight front belts. This is my 3rd 04 kit (04-Pro,04R,04-TRF) and all were tight as could possibly be. The 414M2 is the exact opposite, nice and loose. Tamiya must know why there making them this way, but doesnt make sense to me.

It could be deliberate to try to reduce the performance advantage of the 04 in the GT2 and GT3 classes over other tub chassis cars.

Hi all,

Need some help here, just got myself a TA04r, was happily building away when I realised that there's no space for a msc and another servo.

Thought I was gonna be cheap and use the msc from the other Tamiya I got. So is an esc the only way out or cld I perhaps drill a couple of mounting holes on the graphite deck?
