I have the red and white van halen car. You can tell who I am half way through the race when I hit the wall. I then had to turn some fast laps to catch up.

I have my TC5 on the way and was trying to figure out the gearing before the kit comes so I can have all my parts ready. I'm running a 13.5 Pro Novak BL system on a small tight track. I'm aiming for a 4.8 FDR. I'm just confused because I DL the gear ratio exel sheet that someone posted earlier on this thread and I thought I remember somone saying that the TC5 comes with a 87 tooth spur gear. So according to the chart, I need a 48 tooth pinion to achieve this. But on Tower's website the TC5 kit states that it comes with a 72 tooth spur gear. If this is the case - do you know which 48 pitch pinion gear do I need to achieve a 4.8 FDR?
Sorry if this sounds like a noob question but I don't have the manual yet and I can't DL the manual from AE's website. I just got into RC and I'm trying to learn. Thanks in advance.

Home13,
I don't have a kit yet but according to AE's website they list it as having a 87t spur. A 72t spur is a pretty small spur for a TC. That is about what a normal 1/12th scale car runs. Also that spreedsheet is written in 64p gears, the 48p spurs is in (). But when you read the pinions on the left those are 64p gears. For your 87t spur you would need a 36t

Corallyman,
Thanks for clarifying. I guess Tower's website had a misprint. I was just getting confused because it kept showing that customers that had purchased the TC5 were also getting the 48 pitch pinions which were 27t. Just to clarify - I will be purchasing a 64 pitch 36 tooth pinion for my 87t spur to achieve a FDR of 4.8.
Thanks again!

Home13,
You need to purchase a 36t 48p pinion to go with your 87t 48p spur that the car will come with. You can't mix and match 48p and 64p together. 64p has finer teeth, 48p less fine. 48p is more durable, 64p is alittle more efficient, but with the extra effiency comes more likely to strip or damage. 64p is fine in TC, its what I run but I have been doing this for more than 20 years. I suggest you stick with 48p, the teeth are bigger, stronger less likely to give a inexperienced guy hassles.
Here's your gearing situation in 48p.
87t spur divided by 36t pinion = 2.41666 times 2.0 which is your internal gear ratio.= 4.833

Hey Wop,
It's actually in my wifes car, which I only used for the first time at the last race meet. I thought that it was awesome! Real smooth, good speed and I like the way it coasts into corners a little more than my CO27's.
I ordered one i liked it so much!!!
