Personally, 13.5 is like mod to me but then again, I'm the king of stock. I even run a 13.5 in my 4x4 buggy.
I run a Novak Vulcan 13.5 at about 35° can timing in my truck and it's very competitive and always in the top half of the A main.

I use the x factory infinity chassis which is similar to the exotek chassis. It's brought the weight down quite a bit, but I've found myself adding weight back to the truck in the rear. I felt there wasn't enough weight in the rear with the pucks and a shorty all the way back. I took the pucks out and that helped a lot. I've since pit the pucks back in and added the brass c block, but I haven't had it on the track yet.

Most don't add any weight. The truck is very heavy stock. Most take weight out and adjust the setup to compensate.

Adjusting your esc/radio to smooth out the throttle is also a good idea, A friend of mine has an 8.5 in his T5M and it's buttery smooth. I don't know what his setup is, I normally run a more aggressive setup.

+1. I was struggling with rear bite last night and made a small adjustment to the throttle speed on my radio and lowered the punch in my esc from 7 down to 5 and instantly dropped my lap times by more than a second. Adding weight is my last resort, and I have yet to get to that point.

Im the same way, i like to try a car out without weight first to see if/how it helps. I think weight should only be used as a tuning aid and not just thrown on without having the car be pretty good already. I'm not certain but I believe you can add to much rear weight and that would make the car sketchy as well

30 front, 28 rear is a good starting point.
