I'm confused, I just pulled down the latest rules from the USVTA website and their GT rule book still says ROAR SPEC ESCs, so I assume this is a ROAR decision to use open ESCs in their GT class. If so, hope they know what they are doing. Having driven Trans AM cars with 21.5 motors and open ESCs, if ROAR is hoping to get a class between trans am and 17.5 (Blinky) with this rule they must be smoking crack because IMO any GT car, even with treaded Trans AM tires, with a 21.5 & and open ESC (e.g., Tekin Pro with boost) will blow by any 17.5 blinky stock TC out there. I know some of the TRAM AM guys with boosted ESCs were doing it before the boosted ESCs were widely available & lugging 100 grams extra weight too.
USVTA is NOT ROAR spec speedos...USVTA is a defined list of speedos that have been tested and perform similar.
USGT is open to blinky speedos - nothing to 'worry' about and hope someone gets something right...This combo (blinky w/21.5) is good and works very well for this class... the 'old' RCGT was open speedo and 17.5 - but this was started by HPI and then kind of faded away, like boosted 17.5 racing
if you read these rules - http://www.usvintagetransam.com/rules/index.html - you'll be fine and be up to speed with this class and USVTA

What wing did you use on your Ford GT? I did mine years ago I only put the spoiler on it, now for GT racing I'd like to add the wing.

Kevin K and myself have been talking over some ideas about "GT" style racing and maybe some ways to have a unique racing experience while still keeping the cars reasonable. This is going to be under the USVTA banner, and we would like to implement this for Sept.1, officially. There may still be some tweaks here, but it's 95% there.
We looked at a bunch of retailers, and realized you can get tires from HPI, Tamiya, Associated, Integy, etc. etc. for under $12. This doesn't lock everybody in to one tire, and if you can find something cheaper that goes faster, more power to you. Run 26mm vta tires all the way around, have fun
The other thing was keeping away from what is right now the most successful class, 17.5 sedan. Open speedo 21.5 cars will be plenty fast, but still be a reasonable speed. We're not locking anyone into a single ESC, or motor for that matter right now. This is meant to be something between VTA and sedan, but not the same as either one.
Edit: BTW the FWD thing is getting a lot of buzz, so we wanted a place for that too.
