I ran a Motive 3.5 with 88/28 gearing and 30 degrees of timing. The only place you don't feel the crazy speed is on the straight. The infield may be a touch quicker with Blinky.

Ive seen a lot of guys say they will quit 12th scale or rc in general if 12th goes to rubber tires, or if mod becomes blinky, or if bodies are changed, or whatever.. i just want to be the first to say fu@k it. I'll still be racing long after these rule changes and still having fun

mini motor
Years ago i put an 1/18 brushless setup on my 1/12 scale just for giggles.
I used a castle 8000kv sidewinder micro and a 2200 mah 2 cell from my kids rc18b.
The car was crazy light. Just a bit over 20 oz. Springs and tires were way off.
However the super light car had a magic feel to it.
Also didn't smack the boards as hard either.
Brakes on the other hand.... none LoL.
Instead of power limits on the motor, what about a physical size limit. Just like real F1
Maybe a slightly larger diameter motor like the 1/16th sized stuff would have better braking?

This past Monday I was practicing at Yatabe Arena with my 21.5/2s 1/12th setup. I was on the track with other 1/12th scale cars running 6.5/1s. I couldn't believe the speed difference between the two. I was easily chasing down and passing 6.5/1s.
I think 30.5 would be a better motor choice if those who do decided on running a 2s setup.

21.5/2s blinky is your stock class and open mod is the other class right? Where the 6.5 guys running blinky?

There's a race series called Electric Pan Car Series that follows ROAR rules.

I may have noted this in this thread before but I think I found a quick way to make even the hottest modified motor driveable by any decent stock racer with a quick trigger finger:
Go into your radio's Speed setting that mostly nitro racers use to slow down servos and prevent flame-out, select the throttle + direction, and adjust it to -30 (that's a good start on my Sanwa MT-4) or whatever slows your throttle to take 0.4 seconds or so to go from neutral to full power.
All of the sudden, your undriveably powerful Mod is driveable, even if your fists are made of ham.

Thats a good idea! Ive been using the xr10prossoftening feature which has a similar effect though not as brutal as lowering punchrates. Honestly i dont think limiting things will make mod any more desireable. People just need to try it out and dicipline themselves to practice throttle control.
After running 6.5 and 3.5 boost back to back, 6.5 was easier to drive in the corners for sure with less slowing down, but in a race on track, the two weren't that different in laptimes. Of course im not hebert, most of us prob arent heh.
I will say with the new carpet at least, 6.5 with stripes is perfectly reasonable coming from 13.5. I made no setup changes to the car, just dropped a 6.5 in. Even ran the same strakka.
Even for full open, tires seem to be easier to manage. Just my experience though.
