Hi guys,

I've finished building my 414M2! And I must say, the "blue" looks a lot better than I had imagined. I have a couple of questions (as usual!)

1. What do people use to remove the rectangular bits from the chassis (to run saddles?)

2. In my haste to complete the model (from 3 pm to 5 am ... I messed up one of the shock piston rods. There's no leakage but it's not quite as smooth as the other 3 shocks (and I guess it might wear away the o-ring with use...)
Where can I get a replacement shock poston rod? #9805504



Yes, the Outdrives are Delrin... they are standard on both the regular M2 and the Memorial Edition. For those who are interested, the Tamiya tools included are pretty awesome. The wrench can be switched from 1.5 to 2 mm and has magnetic tips as well...

I got it for 370+shipping... not bad considering the regular is about 300 without body, tires, tools, lightweight swing shaft, delrin suspension cups etc.

1) dremel tool is the easiest with a cutting bit or a sanding bit. Make sure you use a mask so you dont suck up the graphite.

2) The shock shaft can be ordered at your LHS. It should be the same one that they use on the 04.

Yeah, the easiest way is to dremel it, I tried filling but it takes to long. Heres how to do it -
First get your knife and score where you must remove the carbon to. Then take your cutting wheel and remove as much as you can without going past your score and taking too much away. Finally use a burr or sanding bit to finish up removing the remaining waste carbon.
I recommend after this you get some sand paper to smooth all the edges and then seal the chassis with CA glue. I feel every one should do this on all their carbon fibre plate pieces to prevent them from splintering when they hit the chassis hard. (I've seen it happen.) Saves a lot of grief.
Also make sure you bevel the battery slots to 45 degrees or you run the risk of cut the shrink wrap and shorting the cells. (Seen it happen too, nice fireball, when the resin in the carbon chassis ignites!!)

I'm wondering if I can order parts from Tamiya USA. I just need the piston rods (shock shafts) and maybe the o-rings. I haven't seen the rods being sold seperately in LHSs... anyone had experience ordering stuff from Tamiya USA? Was the cost reasonable? Did it take a long time, etc.?

I ordered once through a mate in Texas, as I'm not allowed to order directly, but as far as I know it want smoothly, but price a little high as you pay full retail.
Do my ordering now from Tamiya Japan as it is a little easier for us Australians , and it gets to me faster. Still have to do it through a mate though.

jwwu: You can order from Tamiya America. Just have the part numbers at hand.. They charge full retail. They are very fast with their orders. You'll usually get them in a few days.

Jwwu: Yeah the main things you would want from them would be the rear belt. That belt is different from the 04 belt. Also the universals are different from the 04 also. Everything else is standard 04 parts.

By the sounds here I am guess I got a really good deal to pick one up for $270 with a couple sets of new tires and a body. If anyone has some tips and tricks on setup please help me out.... I have never had a car with as many settings as this one so I will be learning for quite a while about this car.
