I built 2 "TB-EVO3 S Limited" this last month. I set them up same way, except for the electronics. One is with the Novak GT7 and the other one is with the LRP V7.1. For some reason, I am doing much better lap times with the LRP than with the NOVAK

The LRP is set to maximum punch and the GT7 is set on agressive stock, since I race with stock motors.

They both have approximately same gear ratio, i.e. 4.82 (GT7) & 4.88 (LRP).

The drivetrain on both cars is very loose, and although I raced more than 10 times with each car, I did not have a single problem with the gears

Anybody else notice this on the team orion site in the report from the Euros in Austria.

"Only Steen Graversen used a special, custom made transmission."

Would be interesting to see just what this custom made transmission is.

Yep - noticed that!

More about the car here! If someone can translate, that would be great.

A couple pictures:

Enjoy.

I think I have read somewhere that Graversen have a custom made rear diff machined in aluminium and the oneway gear.
But I`m not really sure.

Iīm just back from the Euros in Austria. Those pictures are not from the Euros but from the LRP Masters in April as you could see from the thick prototyp springs Steen was using there. These springs are not for outdoor racing.
I had a very close look at Steen Graversenīs car and talked to him regarding his car. He even opened the gearbox for me for taking pictures. Iīm too tired now for looking for my camera but I will show pictures later.
I think most people outside of Europe will not know of Steen Graversen but I think heīs the fastest Tamiya driver here. Unluckily he didnīt make the A-Final due to one error in his fastest heat so was on 11th position. But he won the B-Final in style.
Steen didnīt used a Surikarn Edition car but his modified EVO3. He used the aluminium upper arm mounts and the stock 2,5mm chassis plate as he thinks the 3mm chassis doesnīt work very good outdoors. He used gearboxes machined for larger bearings and a modified transmission. This in fact is a complete Yokomo SD drivetrain machined so it will fit in the EVO3 gearboxes. It looks very good but unfortunately he doesnīt make this for selling.

Yes I can translate the must important stuff said......

>>It doesn't say much, but you are told that Steen Garversen is using a home made alu. differantial made by his father.

It also says that the new crossjoints were in use.

And Steen doesn't use the Surikarn edition, but his own modified Evo3.<<

Well that's about it.

And good luck in the future Steen Graversen (come visit us in Viborg again some time, or else I'll just see you at the DRCMU races)

Regards

Default Guys!

Have you guys run the square upper deck mounts on your evo3s yet?Alot of guys here notice that the stock plastic middle brace is not true thus when you tighten the top deck down,it can cause the car to tweek.I wanna buy the square parts, but do they help at all?I watched 2 evo3s this weekend just mop up 2 club races here.Cars are dialed.Cant wait to get mine together. Also, anyone else counter sinking thier top decks?Any benefits from that?

Thanks

I noticed the same thing on mine, but haven't had any tweeking problems tho. It's all in how you tighten it down. I heard from a freind that drives for Tamiya that Tamiya is going to release the aluminum top deck mounts that Surikarn uses. I'm trying to wait on those, but might go out and buy the square ones in the mean time.. Any body else heard any news on the release of the aluminum top deck mounts by Tamiya?

If you have the ability to countersink your top deck properly, I would advise you to do it. It helps prevent tweaking and provides a little bit of extra rigidity.

Haven't heard or seen anything in regards to an aluminum center brace. But there are prototypes floating around I'm sure.

Interesting outdrives in the pictures below. At one point during the Reedy race I saw some steel diff halves/outdrives with extra screw holes so that you can run them pinned. That would have been interesting if it made its way into production.

...still waiting to get beat down by a surikarn car so that I can build mine hehe.

Hey, Rod. Do you know a site that would have the latest Surikarn setups for asphalt?
