Mike this link is very interesting. The car sure looks nice, but when I look at the base TA05 it has crappy links and crappy shocks and I keep thinking that I will need a lot more than just the exotek conversion to get to what I see in your picture at Exotek. Do you have a full grocery list to build the car I see there? Or is there a version of the TA05 that actually has the nice blue bits on it?
or with the earlier car TA05-R & TA05IFS-R; there's also TA05MS
the R kits come with TRF shocks and CVDs,
sometimes stiffer plastics or lower-friction drivetrain.
Regardless if you're going to buy any TA05 to fully hopup with CF chassis etc,
unless you really have to run a TA05 its usually cheaper to buy a TRF417 etc.

there are "Type R" kits to the TA05...eg TA05v2-R

^ tell me about it, for the money I spent on getting some extra blue parts from tamiya on my TA06 pro I couldve had a TRF416/7

Take his advice, making a TA05 V2 Completely Pro level aka CF and other exotc parts you better of buying a Pro Type Chassis with all the carbon fiber already on it. But if you like experimenting be ready for to drop some cash as WC is saying you better off with a 417.

glad to hear we're all suckers for punishment, allowing BigT to laugh all the way to their bank!
my latest folly:-
1- blue VDF using Tamiya hopups only
2- VDF hoppedup using everything BUT Tamiya parts except for chassis
3- griptrack VDF, mainly Tamiya hopups
its a bad disease, can't resist hopping them up
even when there's nothing else to hopup, we'll still find something:-
Blame the Blue!!

Nice !!! =D
Yeah I was looking at that Conversion, but i think i like the motor to the middle more, so i can do most TC VTA and Drift Efficiently =D
Very nice, and yes you definitely hopped ur TA05 up also hahaha so you know the Expenses in these cars hahaha xD
BUT I SEE YOU HAVE THE NEW GEAR DIFF HOP UP THERE FOR THE TA05 37T
CAN YOU TELL ME IF THE OUTDRIVES ON IT IS METAL OR PLASTIC ???
SINCE NO ONE SEEM TO BE ABLE TO ANSWER ME THAT FROM THE RETAILERS.

If it hasn't been said 10 times already, unless you're racing the Tamiya TCS GT2 series, there is no reason to hop up a TA05, or R version, unless you like to spend the money and enjoy the build. Save your money and get a 416/417 - it works out to be the same - the only difference is "when" you spend the money, up front or once a week
I am racing GT2, and bought a 'slightly' hopped up basic TA05 - I'll add the alum suspension blocks($70), stiffer TA05 legal CF "infused" chassis($35), gear diff ($30), and misc shims and "bits" ($50) - on top of the TRF shocks($60)/alum motor mount($40)/alum wheels spacers($15)/sway bar kit($25)/front spool($20)/CF rear shock tower($15)/front CVD's($25) that someone else had added!
But do I loveit? Ya, I do!

white Tamiya diff hasn't been installed in VDF, belt too tight with 18t pulley
middle VDF has a black SpecR geardiff, came out before the Tamiya diff.
It fits under stock belt because centre pulley has been changed to smaller.
SpecR's steel outdrives have fatter slots requiring boneknob cushions,
Tamiya's outdrives expect your dogs to go commando.

outdrives are steel like on TA06... anything less i don't think they'd last a lap

And then moved the stock steel to the rear and tossed the Alu ones into the parts box.
Oh so I can get rid of these Plastic Cushions if using Tamiya Gear Diffs ?
But I have to use Cushions if using Spec R ? Did the Spec R Drop in Price ?
BC Tamiya are now only 20-25 bucks.
