Cub86 posted the question: Hi. I'm struggling to understand the lay down situation. I run on high bite damp smooth clay and think the conversation would help on my surface but from what I'm reading I need to buy the lay down kit tlr338004. And the dirt gear case tlr332063. But do I really need both from what I've read the dirt case is 1-2mm higher anyway and u don't use the +3mm hubs or the front pivot hrc or Hrc mod. So is the dirt lay down kit tlr332063 is all that's needed to get me a lay down set up that's suited for clay With the components and car I already have. And if I only get the dirt case is there any problems that will need to be addressed IE.. bone plunge . I do know I'll need 1mm spacers on the waterfall to clear the battery. Thanks guys really trying to get my head around this.

Franks response:
Laydown Conversion will work great by itself. You run the aluminum +3mm hubs, the diff is +3.5mm, and you run the HRC front setup. Just follow a setup sheet from tlracing.com (Frank Root).

Dirt Tranny has the diff at the same height as the standard tranny case, and works with the standard plastic hubs. Both are +/- 0mm from stock. When you run this, no need to run the HRC front mod either.

I've found the stock laydown conversion parts to work great for most tracks. The dirt tranny is a great tuning option, but definitely not 'required'.

Something I made, pretty basic. Just to give people an idea.

It's going down tonight. Dujuan gets his car today. If I ever get out of court I'll be there picking up where I left off at NorCal.

Where are you guys getting those thumb screw battery hold downs. My SMC is just a little fat and I have to bend the hold down a bit. I think I need to add some 1 or 2mm spacers on the bracket to raise it up.

I race on a pretty slick track. I'm running the stock setup, -1mm shim on the front inner camber link (so 2mm), 4 gear trans, AKA 3 rib front tires, and Duratrax shotgun C3 super soft in the rear. if I go to a different front or rear tire its not as good.

Keep in mind that kit is designed to fit the 2.0 buggy and the aluminum spacers (not the thumbscrews) are too short to fit the 3.0, if you can space them up they'll work fine.

No upgrades are Must haves the car is great out of the box, maybe front and rear low frequency spring sets. probably want to get a losi 70t and old slipper pads or a 69t AE style spur and pads.

What are others running for tires at your track? By the looks of the tire I'm assuming the track is rather loamy. If so I would consider looking at potentially Kevin Motter's setup from the Outdoor Reedy Race.

Secondly what are others running for tires at your track. That is a huge factor.

Wondering if anyone has tried the low frequency springs back to back with the regular springs of the same rate?

Had an off night. Got to the track late and only got two packs in before qualifying. Car felt good but I made some mistakes. The car is smooth though. Dujuan finished 2nd last night. His is all hopped up with pucks and titanium goodies. He drove it like a champ. I may put my pucks on for the Shootout.

Congratulations TLR on such a great buggy! I am glad to be back running the 22! So my first night time running it at my local track LSR RACEWAY in Sacramento I was able to get the buggy competitive enough to hold of some pretty fast guys to get 2nd in our first race of our point series! This car handles really good. As good as my b5m that have been running sense the b5m came out! I'm not going to get on here and say the 22 3.0 is the best thing ever and no car compares to anything else. I think the TLR team has put out another great and very capable buggy to win a lot of races not just world class races but at the local and regional race level as well! Having a local sponsored driver like Derek Stefenson as a local driver I have will have plenty of help getting this buggy into the winning circle!!
