Yep, not that long ago searching for a FET for a project so I did look into many options and I can say the diode in the FET can handle a lot but the power of a LiPo battery is stronger.

Every esc has its own design, yes, a slight chance a reversed diode was placed to shortcut a reverse polarity but that you will see when you open it.

Most of the time the FET's got damaged.

Also keep in mind that a LiFe pack needs a LiFe capable charger. Plenty of people who tried to charge their LiFe/LiPo with their cheap NiMh wall charger.....

20 dollar for a NiMh/LiFe battery against a 20 dollar LiPo plus 100+ dollar servo's (if he has 6v servo's). I do not think he will appreciate that.
