Default Servos

Flicking through the forums I have been reading about servos so now I am not sure if the ones I have are adequate or not for my application. I have a Hobao/Ofna Hyper 7 PBS which has run superbly with what is in it, though is a faster servo for the throttle going to make a noticable difference in take off? I don't race though have regained a new interest in RC cars again so may wish to at some stage.

Throttle Servo Futaba S3003

SPECS: Speed: 0.23 sec/60° @ 4.8V
Speed: 0.19 sec/60° @ 6V
Torque: 44 oz-in (3.2 kg-cm) @ 4.8V
Torque: 57 oz-in (4.1 kg-cm) @ 6V

Steering Servo Hitec HS-5645MG

Specs: Speed: 0.23 sec/60° at 4.8V
Speed: 0.18 sec/60° at 6.0V
Torque: 143.03 oz-in at 4.8V
Torque: 164.2 oz-in at 6V

That servo is pretty slow for a throttle servo. I'd look for something in the .15 second range at least, maybe a hitec 625? They go for around $40. Also, does your receiver actually pass 6.0V? Most RTR ones only pass 4.8 V to the servo so your servo is actually even slower than that rating.

You won't notice the servo speed so much at takeoff, but when you're trying to throttle-brake your way through a timed whoops section or correcting a bad jump in the air it'll be way more responsive.

You'll want something way faster than that. Like RC Dad said, something in the .15-12 second range. It wouldn't hurt to have a little more torque either. I use the futada S9351.

.13 sec/60° at 6.0V
192 oz-in at 6.0V
