Default Venom charger only charges in AC mode.

Anyone have a similar problem? I had to cut my day short today at the track. LOL

That's very odd, almost has to be something fairly simple, a connection, etc. Probably fixable with a moderate amount of electrical knowledge, follow the path from the DC input to where it joins up with the AC power supply section.

When the AC is plugged in, there's a contact inside that cuts off the DC. I'm guessing it's stuck on DC mode, either worn or bent and won't go back despite unplugging it. There's a little circuit diagram near the power jacks that shows the contacts.

If you can't get it unstuck I'd see about making a plug end that allows you to connect the 12V source right into the AC jack, since all that "AC" jack does is take 12V DC from the external AC power supply provided.

I understand about the contact, I took off the sideplate and looked inside, nothing broken, no wires unsoldered . I'm thinking the contact has failed.

I dont want to send it back cause I know it'll take a while before I get it back. What sucks is I spent some coin on this and I want the security of knowing I can charge DC in case I dont have AC nearby.

There have been probs with these chargers - we've seen them here before and its usually a serious type prob. Venom has been good about standing behind them - I'd call and ask them about the prob you're having with it.

Well I called Venom and spoke to Jason over there, really nice guy.

He was very empathetic to my situation, he said the problem is probably in the board, since it's out of warranty he offered to give me a really great deal on a refurbed unit. I asked him if he wanted me to send my old one in and he said to keep it as a backup.

I'm also sending my battery in to get replaced.

Great customer service, that will keep me as a customer.

He announced that they are coming out with a 70c battery next month. I might have to get one of those for my 4x4. My little ole 20c 5000 mah battery is pretty tough and lasts a long time.

Thanks Venom!!
