Default OLD M8 Need some input, 27 to 2.4

I'm just getting back into the hobby, and have an old Airtronics m8 radio.
My question I guess would be to buy this module converter to the 2.4 ghz or purchase a new radio? bought this thing for $300 when it first came out. now it's worth less than $100. CRAZY. bad ass radio just minus the 2.4ghz.
I hate to get rid of it, Because I have taken such good care of it. Has anyone actually bought the 2.4 module? Thanks for the help.

Back like 8 years ago when everyone raced 10th scale I used to drool when I saw all the fast guys (or guys with tons of money) with their M8s. I'm just kind of getting back into it now and was super stoked to pick up an M8 with a spektrum module in it. Its the SM1001 module that I use with a SM3001 reciever (the SM1000 and SM3000 are cheaper and not much different). It works really good! I say don't get rid of it! I'm kicking my self now for it, but i saw SM1000 module go for $14 on ebay the other day, just missed it... they regularly go for only about $30 on there and recievers can be had for around 40-45...

I still run a M8 with a Spektrum module. Works great. Only issue you'll run into is that the M8 doesn't have channel mixing which can be a problem on some 1/8th Electric scale cars that use mechanical brakes.

I ran the M8 with the Spektrum module up until I got my M11. And the only reason I got the M11 is because I'm a gadget nerd. The M8 has more than enough features for even the serious club racers. Hell, the fastest guy at our track still runs an M8.

The main downfall of the Spektrum module is that the antenna tends to get broken because it sticks out the back. Here's the article on how to relocate it:

Keep the M8 and do the Spektrum mod. I still have mine from years ago, and I just recently went 2.4 with it and did the antenna mod. Works Amazing...plus no matter how old it is, its still a M8 lol

"Channel mixing occurs when two separate channels are made to operate in conjunction with one another. For example, you could program an aileron and rudder mix whereby the rudder automatically moves a set amount when the ailerons are deflected."

That is a plane oriented explanation - in surface rc mixing is not that common, but there are setups that use it lioke 4 wheel steering on a crawler where it uses 2 diff servos on diff channels for the 4wheel steering setup.

As far as 8th scale...The HB Ve8 still utilizes a drivetrain bake (with servo). Now it doesnt have to be used, but if you really want to tune the brake bias...that in conjunction with the ESC braking is an example of channel mixing.

i have the M8 w/ Spektrum Pro system. I wont buy the new M11 till this one dies completely. I did do the Spektrum mod on mine but noticed that my range was lowered. not sure why so i put everything back the way it was.

i would say if its not broken and still works, use it.
