Default Do I have an air leak? Baja 5b

Hey guys,

I have over 10 years of nitro experience and about 5 minutes of gas. My baja has the 23cc fuelie and a DDM V2 pipe. I'm the second owner.

The motor fires right up on the 1st or 2nd pull. Idles nice for about 30 sec. Then the RPM's go up...up....UP...UP... and it stalls out.

The throttle linkage never moves when this happens so I would assume air has to be entering from somewhere. Any thoughts?

Set the low end needle at 1 1/8 turns out and the high end needle at 1 1/2 out. This is a close basic setting. See what happens. Low end needle is on the right & high end on the left.

If you can get it to idle, spray some carb cleaner around the carb while it's running. If you hear a change in idle you'll find your air leak. More than likely it's one of the carb gaskets.

This can also be the opposite of leacking - vacuum! Check that the tank gets to vent, it sounds a bit like it doesn't, and therefore it is not able to pick up fuel.

Making progress. I didn't get to drive it tonight but I was able to reset the needles. It wouldn't fire up after I set them to factory but a few tweaks of the LS needle and it fired up. I'm surprised at how much it responds to the LS adjustments. 1/16 of a turn goes a long way. I can now let it idle for 2-3 minutes with no issue.

I'll let you know once I can open it up and get the temps up.

Yes they are different then nitro! A very small amount on the needles will make a big difference. Do you have a manual for it? If not you can down load it off HPI web site for free.

Been running a 5b SS for about 3 years. If I can ever help send me a PM.
