Dude, will you have O.S .18 TZ ( 2.25 HP ) in your shop ? ..... I'm not sure I can handle that , but I'm willing to drive it first. Must be overwhelming experience !

I read exploded view for NSR12 S3 & S5, JP FX3 & FX5, NS15 S5.
These novarossi parts give your FX another chance to live and serve. Here is the summary for interchangeable parts:
Parts that can be use for ALL of them are :
07601 microcasted conrod
16602 rear bearing
17006 front bearing
10608 carburator complete set
In addition to that, NSR12 S3 and JP FX3 parts are interchangeable :
08658 complete set piston, sleeve, conrod ( 3 ports )
15616 crankshaft
09626 crankcase
28605 alluminium button head for ignition chamber
NSR12 S5 and JP FX5 :
08659 complete set piston, sleeve, conrod ( 5 ports )
15615 crankshaft
09626 crankcase
28605 alluminium button head for ignition chamber

I believe the carbs on the .12 engine will fit on the small block .15 engines (NS15 S5) and vice versa. Just that the 10608 carb on the NS15 S5 engine is without the 3rd brass needle screw which is similar to the one that the JP FX engines have...
BTW, a 3 port engine will fit a 5 port sleeve and vice versa regardless of it being a Novarossi engine or a JP FX engine...

When do you expect JP engines need overhaul ( piston, sleeve, conrod ) ? 4 gallon of fuels ? How about only conrod replacement after 4 gallon ? cheaper u know

Secondly, to check compression, what people do is to crank the engine flywheel until the piston closes the exhaust port. Put a few drops of after run oil into the exhaust port of the crankcase so that the oil is trapped there at the exhaust port where the piston is blocking.
Then, try to crank the flywheel up to TDC slowly while observing if there are any bubbles coming out of the exhaust port because of the after run oil. If there are a lot of bubbles all the way when you crank up to TDC, then the piston sleeve has loss compression and does not have the required seal anymore. Of course, do this with the engine head and plug mounted.

This info as I had said months ago actually tells me that why would you buy a stock JP Fx engine if you can find a Nova NSR engine for less money. If the bearings, rod, crank, piston, sleeve, carb, button and crankcase are the same part number, then they are the same engine. The bling is kinda nice, but why spend more money for exactly the same engine.

I agree that JP are rediculously overpriced. The performance advantage is not proportionate to the extra money. For 99% of the time the NSR is just as fast!

How can there be a performance advantage. They are the SAME. Only the tuning and maybe a little luck in terms of parts fitting will make one different from the other. The only thing I can thing of is if my memory serves me correctly, the NSR has a 9 fin head and the JP has an 11 fin head. This will make a difference to those that use stock cylinder heads.

But about the heatsink thingy, I never had a problem using 9 fin on my RRL5. Even on a hot 30 odd degree Celsius tropical climate.
