Default **HELP** Need new engine for nitro Rustler

I have an older Nitro Rustler from 2003. Over the years my sons have dropped it in the pool and thrashed it. Now that they're older they're into RC trucks and appreciate them. I'm looking to replace the 2.5 engine it has. I know Traxxas has the upgrade plan but can you guys recommend a few different engines. I'm even willing to downgrade to a .15 engine to save a few bucks. I really don't need it to go 50 mph.

Also, if I were to downgrade, would I have to replace other parts? I'd imagine I would.

Thanks.

A .28 is way to big for a rustler. It would rip the thing apart. Dynamite you can't beat them for the price. What is your price range though? If it didn't matter I would recommend o.s. engines.

I was hoping to spend under a $100 for a new engine because I can always go with the Traxxas for $85. Right now I'm considering fixing this Rustler or buying a new electric Traxxas. This Rustler was thrown in the pool and has been bashed pretty good. Plus my 5yo. son will be using it most of the time and nitro trucks require more maintenance. I was able to get it running after being thrown in the pool but I have a feeling it might have more problems down the road.

Tizao, what is this lil peppy .12 you speak of?
