Default Novarossi PLUS.21-4BTT TUNED 4 Port .21 V Novarossi S21P5XLT .21 5 Port

Has anyone had experiance with both of these engines, if so how did you find the difference in power delivery etc, how did tuning compare, and reliability between the two.

Also my LHS mentioned that the P5 has been discontinued, is that correct.

It has not been discontinued. well I hope not....it's my favorite motor...

I have not run the btt engine, but I have run the plus-4 both versions and they are really nice and smooth with excellent overall power from low to top..

the p5 is a little different, it has gobs of bottom end, Like my ladies, and plenty midrange, but not quite the legs up top.

Honestly It's a tough choice....They both tune excellent, and last a long time...the team piston is nice in the btt...but it's expensive....

If you run truggy then the p5 is the best choice, but if you have a buggy then you have a tough decision to make....get em both....

Yeh the btt price, I was wondering if the extra price hike is justifiable.
How much more benificial is the lower cylinder head in the btt, is it worth the extra $ or should I be comparing the 4T with the P5.

Also I noticed on some sites they state 4btt tuned and others dont mentioned tuned, is there a difference there or same motor?

Default Well

You are asking great questions.

I know one btt has ceramic bearings front and rear. and one has just a ceramic rear bearing...Honestly I don't own a btt so it's tough for me to say..

If you want a plus-4 I like the plus-4 team and the plus-4 tuned with a ceramic rear bearing, both of those motors I've run and they are really nice...they are getting fewer in numbers as they are replaced by the btt..

The p5 is the workhorse of all engines.. The power is more sudden and the plus-4 is more smooth, but still has more torque than it seems because it gets traction and still clears tough sections...

Before I really raced a plus 4 I would have said get a p5, but there is a reason the plus4 and btt engines are run by the Nova drivers, they are the best.....but don't think I'm not keeping a p5 or two in my stable.. ok 2...

Honestly the one guy who always gives excellent customer service is Monty of Houston Engine Service. I'm sure he has a plus-4....

I just read somewhere that the btt tuned has a factory tuned crank shaft.

Hopefully Monty or there abouts could be more elaborate on the differences.

Thanks for your reply merdith6, appreciated.

plus 4 for buggy in any form , plus 21-4T, plus 21-4c TEAM , plus 21--4btt/btts

excellent buggy combination with either the 9901ss/41021 or 2096ss/41021 pipesets

lmk if you need anything

modifications are entirely up to you , plus 4 doesnt really need any modifications for buggy , maybe a silicone filled crank but .............

factory tuned = nothing special

factory dont spend too much time on the engines as far as hand finishing (if any) so what "mods"/"tuned" portions there are of an engine arent anything to get all worked up over but the parts/pieces that make the most dramatic improvements/changes to the engines characteristics are what the factory focuses on , quick and easy

where guys like all the self proclaimed professional "modifiers" that are quite previlent these days and others who repair/service engines come in are they/we hand check/inspect/finish each engine by hand , much more can be done this way with greater attention to detail

What P5 combo (pipe and header) will be good for truggy? Will the combo give the engine a noticeably difference.

Plus 4c .21 Team! Get it from monty, and he will hook you up. Get Silicone crank, and get the 2096 pipe if you want some more power! If you want it to be a little tamer, get the 9901. Has the ceramic rear bearing, the nova dual seal front bearing (one of the best out there). Also has an improved crank over the p5xlt.

The 4btt takes a long time to break in, like 2 gallons. So if you want to do that go ahead. Awesome engine though once it's done.

the p5xlt is an awesome engine too, a lot of guy run them here and they perform awesome. Just remember you will want to get the nova 17011 bearing with it to replace the front bearing on the p5 (the plus 4 engines already have it).
