Default 17T Rear Side Pulley

Does anyone know if Serpent have already came out with the new 17T Rear Side Pulley for the 705? Part number? Not the impulse 17T, since it making use of the Pin, which 705 doesn't have.

I'm trying to get a 1:1 Ratio for front and rear, when using a 22T and 47 for the Rear, 15T Centax Pinion for the 1st gear (rest of Centax gears are stock). If i can't get a 17T to replace the stock 18T read side pulleys, what if i were to use a 23T for the front side pulley or maybe change it to 15T or 16T front middle pulley? Will i be getting 1:1 ratio or maybe close, without the need to do a split on the front or rear tires?

I believe that there already is such a pulley listed. Look in the 705 reference guide that came with the kit. Under options, I know I have a 17t pulley listed, just can't remember the P/N.

Lightbulb 17T SIDE PULLEY

The 17t side pulley is listed for older car as a pin drive pulley. The shaft need a hole for the pin to drive the pulley for this #801256 pulley!!

Nizam,
Your titanium shaft you got from Jack should have a pin hole to accomodate for this pulley. He makes these shaft to fit for the 835 & 705 to use both pulleys. The 835 18t side pulley is a pin driven pulley not like the 705 with the grub screw.

paulfitipauldi,

Does this part 801252 works and fit inside the Pulley Adapter 808265? Or it making use of the Pin?

I ordered 4 of them and they still have not show up. I know they exist though since I got 2 from team Serpent at the winternats that I used in the race.

Thanks, I will try it. For anyone that is interested, the different gear ratio did help a lot with acceleration, the car felt much "snappier with the 22/47/17 combination, and still more topspeed than you really need....

If you keep the 18T side pulley and use 47T on the diff and 22T on the brake pulley and 23T front side pulley, you will not get a 1:1 overdrive. You need to run a 7 mm split (front tires smaller) to get a 1:1 overdrive.

PUNISHER, where did you get the 801256 part number? It' snot anywhere in Serpent's parts list. In fact there is no 17T pulley anywhere in Serpent's part's list except for the new 17T that just came out (801252).

I'm not too sure how the 18T side pulley of the 835 is mounted. But I know for sure that the Impact 18T pulley is mounted on the pulley adapter (9618) which is then mounted with a pin on the shaft.

Both the Impact and the 705 18T pulley shares the same part number (808260). So the 808265 aluminum pulley adapter used on the 705 has the same hole dimension to mount the 18T side pulley (or 17T pulley) as the 9619 Alu. pulley adapter 19t MK-2. Only when you use the 9619, it spaces the 18T side pulley out a little more from the rear bulkhead.

I know because I did this conversion earlier on my Impulse PRO before the 705 and the 24T side pulley has to be spaced out like 2 mm out to get the 18T and the 24T pulleys to line properly. If you have the hollow middle shaft, it's a little longer for the Impulse (or the 705). Even the stock middle shaft for the 705 is a little longer. This made it possible to space out the 24T side pulley by 2mm.

I hope this clears the confusion

Ummm, yes, it would make some difference... But I think it's no where the Mugen MTX-3's acceleration. The Mugen's first gear drive ratio is 7.421. The 705 when using the optional 17T side pulley, 22T brake pulley, 47T diff pulley, 15T pinion and 50T first gear spur only gives a 7.121 first gear drive ratio. Don't forget the fact that the Mugen is also a much lighter car...

Kenji's final drive ratio for the 2nd gear is 5.431. If you use 18T smallest 2nd gear pinion and 46T biggest 2nd gear spur, you arrive at a final drive ratio of 5.459 on the 705. Pretty close to the Mugen.

Also, yes Frederick, you are correct on the top speed. The Impulse PRO / 705 never had any problems with that. In fact too much top speed I must say

You can also get the 17T pulleys at www.rccarinternational.com. They have them. Although shipping is reasonably cheap, you need to get other stuff in order to justify the cost.

tell you what i ran the old centax with the old drivetrain ratios and won or ran in the top ten for three years now, you do not have to have the new 17, 22/47 gears to compete, in fact the car is much easier to drive with the higher ratio, the lower is great on a tight very high traction track, if the track is loose you are better off finding the punch in the clutch, and be able to roll the throttle, the tc3 was always able to go to a lower ratio, that is why it alwasy looks so darn fast...... in heavy comp i have seen little if any diff in most of these cars.. the lower ratio on some pkg lot tracks would be better, but not all, it is just a option, and if it the reason you are not winning, you are really damn good, and need not be asking here or you have other areas that will give you more improvement........ just trying to help you help yourselves and not waste valuable thought and effort over one simple little thing.....
