Good morning all. I've been searching up and down on the Internet for aluminum vs carbon clutch shoes information but most are related to off-road rc.
Does the rules apply to onroad too?
How worn is worn out for a pair of clutch shoes?

Which type of shoes and spring is everyone running in your IGT here?

A few of the guys I know use the aluminum clutch shoes. I still use the carbon shoes with either 0.9 or 1.0 springs. For my style of driving, it engages smoother and is more controllable. The rules for aluminum vs carbon shoes are no different than those of offroad racing (low traction vs high traction). I can say that carbon shoes are easier on clutchbells than aluminum shoes.

To me, worn shoes would be when your clutch shoe spring is about to gouge the clutchbell (on a standard 3-shoe setup). If you are using a Buku, Werks, or Losi 4-shoe setup, you will have to defer to one of those users.

Try the DYNP5180 shoes from Dynamite. They are aluminum , but wear better than any others I have used.

I was doing a engine clean up and found out the outing bearing was completely torn off! Took the clutch bell off to find out the rtr carbon shoes worn down to the point where the spring is rubbing the bell as well. What a surprise after only 1 gallon of run time.
I guess those ofna force .28 rtr clutch shoes are weak.....

For spooky, what spring are you using with these shoes?

I like the carbon being more smooth on power curve but I hate keep buying new shoes after a gallon of run time.
I want to try alumium and came across with the ofna silver.
So, dynp5180 vs ofn10013? 1.0 or 1.1 springs? Pros and cons? Any other recommendations?

Hello,

- Less heat on the bell, so reduced bell wear.
- Longer bearings life.
- More consistant clutch shoe bite.
- More alternatives of tuning (mix of 2 x 2 or full x 4)
- Longer clutch shoe life

Material of clutch are made and springs really depend on driving style. Remember aluminum more aggressive.

Good info on clutch shoe ...... Spooky, I might have to try the Dynamite shoes.

I've run the Werks 4 shoe clutch with 2 carbon and 2 aluminum. I agree that the 4 shoe seems to last a little longer. But I have also used the stock OFNA on the X3 and DM1 with one carbon and 2 light silver aluminum with similar results. I've used 1.0 on the carbon and 1.1 on the aluminum shoes.
