Default Hudy Truer Power Source

Since the truer is related to On-road I guess I'd put it here. I have the fully auto truer and a DPS 500CB (500w, 12v, 42A) server psu. Is it that server PSU can give out a sudden burst of power? I try to turn on the motor, but instantly the power supply shuts down. What kind of power supplies do you guys use to power your truer?

Thanks!

Usually we use a 12v car battery. I have used a 15amp power supply at the house though big cuts will shut it down. You could also use a 3s or 4s Lipo. If your supply really is 42 amps, that should do just fine but obviously something is wrong.

I think server power supplies needs a gradual buildup of load... It works on my small lead battery.

Sounds it's like surge protected

Hudy truers work better with a constant 20amp PS. thats if you take 2 passes of trueing. I've been useing Pyramid 36 PS since '92 havent had a problem with it. I never found more 16amp to run. Seldom it reaches 20 amp. You want a PS to have constant amperage. Pyramid 36 is dependable. The Pyramid 26 will do. Both are adjustable amps

I have a 30 amp PS that does the same thing. It's the surge protection that shuts it down. When I spin the tire a bt and then switch on the truer, it usually works.

What you can try is, to put a few big electrolyte capacitors parallell to your power output. They'll buffer the power surge.
