Default 4 gear diff upgrade for r40

Does any one know the part number required to convert the diff on r40 to 4 gears...it appears that it is a hotbodies part for the lightning.

HPI makes a complete conversion kit and the extra shafts, but I am not sure whether you can get it in the USA.

Default part number

That why I am wondering if anyone has part numbers from hotbodies..my local shop does not stock much in the way of hotbodies products so it would be special order.

yes...also,before putting in the new shoes, take an x acto blade and LIGHTLY take off a little bit of the edge of the shoes on the outside where it would hit the bell..

Can't blame you there..

Take your time putting it together....and remember to enjoy yourself while doing it...Sometimes people forget that......Driving alone is not all there is to this hobby...

I have a question about putting oil/grease in the diffs.

My buddy who has a R40 said don't put oil in the diffs because they'll leak. He recommended Associated Black Grease.

Is this true?

you should be able to fill them with silicone oil they come with gaskets

maybe use some rtv also if you cannot get them to seal properly with the gasket

i think the kit set-up uses 5k front oil and grease in rear

i use a one-way and 30k rear and havent noticed any leakage yet

Not that I've seen. One of the reasons I liked this car over the others was the rubber belts vs the urethane ones. The Urethane ones break unpredictably where the rubber ones let go gradually for the most part giving you a chance to replace the belt after the you finish the race. It also uses the same belt front and rear reducing the spares list.
