I was part of a graduation and a funeral for students the same day. I know too damn well about violence in the streets of America. Don't tell me it doesn't happen everywhere else in the world also.
I will not say anything to belittle any other country. I did not lambaste any country in my statements. Just to educate. I am from the US. I am a damn proud citizen of the US. I don't agree with everything our leaders do, or what many citizens do, but according to our Bill of rights, I have the freedom to say so.
What you are hearing in this forum is a patriotism. Yea, we may not be liked by the rest of the world. But we do have to stick up for our team. We don't like the mess that we(people/citizens) are in, but we have a year and change to go so that we will make the change.
I'm not taking these comments to heart. I love debates and commentary. But for our bros outside(European, Asian, African, Persian) of the US please don't blame us (citizens) for our governments actions. We are just like you. We are stuck in the middle. It just takes a little while for change to happen here.

You seem more obsessed with U.S. nationalism when in reality most people no matter what country they are from have the same view of thier country. Even the Immigrants that come to the U.S. boasts about the country they left. Nice way to derail this thread, The guys are mearly hoping for a safe return of a fellow Hobbyist.

Only a fool would say that oil has nothing to do with this war. For instance, top U.N. officials were taking "Oil for Food" bribes even before the war began. However, I disagree that it's the keyword here. If the "Evil American Empire" felt the need to start a war based on oil, it would have avoided the snakepit that is Iraq and toppled Chavez' regime in Venezuela instead. That would have been a much easier war to fight and there's much more on-the-ground support for American-style democracy in Venezuela than there ever will be in the middle east.
In a country like The Netherlands where valuable Enlightenment ideas like "tolerance" have played a major role in forming the culture, there's always the danger that political correctness will end up being its downfall. Heck, British journalists already aren't allowed to use the words "islamic" and "terrorist" in the same sentence; German courts are already trying some cases according to sharia law; honor killings are happening in the streets of Copenhagen, etc...

I wouldn't know. I had many friends in Europe, vacationed there 8 times between 1994 - 2001, and spent a semester abroad studying in Regensburg, but I have no plans to return in the near future. Why would I want to spend my hard earned (weak
) dollars in a place that gives aid and comfort to my country's enemies when I can just buy a movie ticket or a CD and do the same thing here in the U.S.A?

Even though (as stated before) you have a voluntairy army, and anybody joining the army then has the risk these things happen, they still need to get back save....
The Dutch army also lost a dozen soldiers, and they are not even in the "warzone"....
