Have you considered the Ofna Mutilator? I think its $400. Its available with a .28 electric star engine or a .32 pull start engine. Both look good. Also, since you said its not for racing, you might want to consider something with reverse. I love my buggy for bashing, but I keep banging my head for not getting a MT with reverse because I run into things a lot and have to pull it back

the problem is the under 400 or 400 price range ..if you want to race look at the losi 8ight 2.0 rtr ....you can find them for a good price if you look really hard and stack cupons ...the problem with the 810 will be breakage and less superior components ....400 is a hard range .....i would almost say get an electric 4x4 shortcourse truck ....try it and see if you like the offroad .....but its definitely worth spending just a touch extra to get a 2.0 8ight rtr over the 810 ...this is just my opinion that if you start out with a little better than what you were looking for it can minimize the problems and the depression that is soon to follow
