1. I see seven racers in the pic "out of uniform"

2. you pay me to wear clothes, I am not a slave, next we will have to allow ROAR officials to fondle us like the TSA

As someone here said "shit happens" and I agree totally. As a world class racer selected out of thousand of racers around the country to represent ROAR in THE World Championship half way around the world, can't they at least make sure they will get their own official t-shirt? It is clearly stated in the rule book that one must wear the official t-shirt, so if I am going to the WC and I didn't get mine, I will bang on ROAR's door until I get mine. The dedications and passions are what separating the men from the boys, racing vehicle from toys...

Guys, please remember, you join ROAR and not ROAR join you, if you don't like how ROAR is handling the issue, here are two options for you:

1) Run for the President post and change it from within

or

2) BEAT IT!

IFMAR, ROAR, FEMCA, EFRA, FAMAR are the sport governing bodies for model racing cars. Just as with FIA, FIFA, NBA, MLB, NFL, etc, they have their rules, if you want to play you must follow their rules and they are not a bunch of cowboys for sure. Oh wait! Even the Rodeos have rules...

Anyone who breaks the rules must be penalize (after failing an appeal) if not the rules and the governing body will become a mockery for all.

In most sports the athletes wear the shirts of the people paying them the money.

I can see the requirement of a ROAR logo of a certain size needing to be on the shirt but what about the sponsors of the racers, they are the ones putting up the money! Why shouldn't they get the attention and coverage at the opening ceremonies?

EXACTLY, why in the world would they bother showing up to the opening ceremony if its optional. Especially if they show up only to be penalized.

Oh right, read Mr Lutz reply below. Apparently he was asked too....

I haven't met you, don't know anything about you, but it appears that you don't mind passing judgment on others without complete information.

Its interesting about this "TEAM USA". I have yet to see any print ads or internet ads about "TEAM USA" at the worlds. Where is the benefit of "TEAM USA"?

I see some $10 t shirts that don't even have a decent size American Flag on it?? I see ROAR in big letters and a little American flag 1/2 of the size. I think you mean to say its the ROAR team.

Well said Mr Lutz. I do love how people are so quick to judge with so little information.

I am especially disappointed about the people who are close (or pretend to be close) to the situation and their comments on how this suspension is warranted. If the team manager (as said in his own words) asked the drivers to be a part of the ceremony and the drivers (for what ever reason) didn't have a shirt then the responsibility fully lands on the team manager.

After all it says in the rule that its "Optional" to attend.

I would like to personally thank the team manager Kendall Bennett for doing what few men have the guts to do these days; standing up and taking responsibility for his actions.

Here are his words off NEobuggy
Ok, I have to step in and say my piece about this. Firstly, nobody is actually getting suspended. It is a warning at this time.

Now, I was the USA Team Manager and the worlds, and I was responsible for drivers being in the procession without the necessary attire. I was informed by the ROAR president before I headed to the Worlds, that drivers would be handed our suspensions if they did not have shirts at the event, and that I was responsible for making sure they either had a shirt, or were not in the procession.

Before the ceremony I talked to as many drivers as I could and quickly discovered that some drivers simply did not have shirts for various reasons. Some of them claimed they never actually got the shirts that were supposed to be sent to them prior to the event. ROAR says that everybody was sent shirts, but in the end, we all know the postal service is not 100% and some may have simply gotten lost in the post (or maybe some never had them sent due to a clerical error). Some guys had left them behind by accident.

In the end I went and spoke to Bob Ingersol, who was the ROAR referee at the event and we had a discussion about what we should do. It was decided that given that we felt some drivers simply did not have shirts due to reasons they had no control over, that it was more important to have all the drivers for the USA team in the photo, than for everyone to have a shirt on. So I made the executive decision at the event to let everyone be in the procession, shirt or not. Clearly I wanted everyone to have a shirt if they had them (and I gave up my extra shirt for someone to wear), but I felt it was necessary to fully represent the entire team at the Worlds.

I did inform ROAR of my decision after the event and why I made it.

I have also informed ROAR that it is my stance on this issue that I feel it is completely naïve of ROAR to not expect that some guys WON’T have shirts at EVERY SINGLE EVENT. Murphy’s law tells us that shit happens. And with a team that big, someone is always going to not have a shirt. So the solution, as I have told ROAR, is that if it is that important to ROAR that we present a unified front and everyone needs to wear a shirt, that a supply of extra shirts in various sizes be sent to the event so they will be waiting for the USA team manager when he/she arrives at the hotel. That way, if drivers are missing their shirt for any reason, they can pay $15 and get a new shirt to wear. If we do this at the next Worlds event, I guarantee that everyone in the picture will have a shirt.

Regards, Kendall Bennett,

I have other thoughts on this but its not directly on topic so i started another thread here. Team ROAR or Team USA?
this thread should have closed after this post, nice job ghost....... +100

As I said, you join ROAR and not ROAR join you. Did ROAR point a gun to ask anyone to join?

If the sponsor feels that it is unfair that their racers have to wear ROAR official t-shirt rather than their sponsor's t-shirt, they can always put up a protest. If all else fails, the sponsors can organize their own World Championship event and no one is barring them to do so.

FYI, just like FIA, ROAR is the governing body and not some sponsor, you pay your membership fee to them and they are not (AFAIK) backing any team financially. If you or any team feels that's unfair, please don't join, as simple as that.

Here is my problem with what a few of you are now mentioning. I for one would have Happily sat out of the opening ceremony knowing I didn't get my shirt for whatever reason. (I found out the reason tonight that it was sent to my old address, I thought it was updated but I was wrong so it is my fault that I didn't receive them, (Though I did have a forward on my address)). However with that being said I would have sat out but was told by the ROAR Team Manager that he wanted all of us to walk anyways. In reading his comments he also spoke with the ROAR referee at the event who also parroted those remarks. So when we had people who were put in power for the Worlds event to represent ROAR and they told us they wanted us to walk, how is it fair for it to be turned around and made into a public spectacle?

Well said Ryan !! IMO I don't know who made all this shirt stuff public but it would appear that the mentioned racers are owed an public apology by the top people of Roar and to revoke the warning that they have issued !!! If a cop tells you its ok to cross the street and then gives you a ticket when you do ,it's just not right !!! it's that simple !!! Mr. Steve Pond it's up to you to do whats right , and I would hope that you will, cuz I for one have supported Roar for many years long before the first offroad worlds ever took place!!

I'm guessing there is more racing without roar than with?

I don't know one track that uses roar insurance.

I've joined them that is correct. I'm just not sure why? To run the Nationals? Easily replaced.

Having known both Ryan and Kendall,

I find it hard to believe that they didn't try to correct the situation when it presented itself at the time. As referenced by Kendall's own words that would seem to be the case. I am a bit perplexed by the public notification. Albeit ROAR dod not name any names, still it would seem to have been better off to adress the sitaution differently. I had no idea such a rule was in the rule book so I guess I learned something here. Not that I have anything to worry about, I highly doubt I'll find myself in a sitaution that knowing that rule will save me.

Lightbulb I have an idea.....

Jut in case something comes up, and always does, ROAR could bring a box of shirts to the race. Problem solved, whew, that was a tough one.
