Default Piston & Sleave Question

I went to the LHS and put the truck in the shop due to I am not sure what I am doing. They told me that the piston and sleave was bad. It was sticking and the top. Is there a way to get it not to stick or is it sopose to be tight at the top? With the glow plug out and heat sink off the sleave slides up when you turn the flywheel. Can someone give me some info on this please? Thanks alot.

It should "stick" at the top, which is called "pinch". It should slide up somewhat if you take the heatsink/button off.

How much should it stick? There saying its to TIGHT.

Get a heat gun or a hair dryer and heat the block before starting it. The only time I have heard of a too tight sleeve was due to a manufacturing defect, and the piston would stop (read would NEVER get to TDC) at the top.

How hot should it heat it up to?

About 200 degrees.

I am using a HPI DRILL and with full charge it has a hard time turning the motor. Does that sound right?

Heat up the motor, then try it. New engines should never be started cold. Also dont flood the engine. And loosen the glow plug 1/2 turn, then tighten it immediatly after you start it.

Yep, your engine has a ton of pich, which is good. I can lift my MGT almost off the ground with my LRP's pull-start, as it has so much pinch, even after 2 gallons.

I tried that 3 or 4 times on sunday and it did work. I only heated it up to 100-120. So the tightness of it is " GOOD "?

Yep, it is very good. If it goes away after a few gallons, your engine and sleeve are starting to wear, and *might* need to be replaced. Most motors last at least 10 gallons without needing them to be replaced.

I will try it. I havent heard of it. Will I have to do it every time?

I usually loosen the glow plug when i am breaking in my engines....after they are fully broke in, i usually kick them off on the starter box with no probs.

your motor might not be fully broke in...as what was said, heat it up then run it, just dont get your carb too hot when pre heating your motor.

If they told you the p/s was bad because of it having tight pinch, I'm not too sure I would trust them around your car.
